Why do Americans expect a high tip for any kind of service?

- You order McDonalds: $10 tip
- You order a large Pizza: $15 tip
- You order a beer: $5 tip
- You ask for directions: $2 tip

My guess would be their attempt to push overhead costs onto customers.

Whats wrong with america: we are culturally brainwashed into feeling bad for not paying the wages of someone working a dead end job.

Whats right with countries that dont feel pressured to tip their servers: they send the message that if you dont like your job find a new one but its not my responsibility to support you in your dead end job.

This. I'd second Germany too but it's hit or miss. Some servers there expect it since us Americans are all over the place. Some could care less and still provide good service.
