The problem is whats makes it valuable is largely the fact that other people think it will become more valuable. It that belief dissapears, the value sinks. Sure, it also has some value because it´s the most secure network in the world arguably. However, bitcoin will lose this advantage over time as other cryptocurrencies progresses. When that happens, it will be hard to market it anymore.

You’re describing something that is supposedly valuable because it took time and money to make it.
You can put time and money into something but THAT ISNT WHAT MAKES IT VALUABLE.
It’s valuable because people want it. They might want my hole in the ground or my grains of sand, as it happens they want a pointless algorithm.

You should be good as long as you sent it to the right address which sounds like you know what youre doing. They also pay you daily so you can see accrued interest. Its pretty fun to watch it stack up. I would put 25% to 50%. Its safe for sure but im used to cold storage and like to have insurace on my end just incase. That one quite plan for the worst but expect the best. Also it sounds like you have alot of btc so im jelous of what youre return will be. IF you have it in you pm me a range I wont post it.

But the gamble of the long-term seems pretty attractive also. BlockFi is pretty cool. At current prices it returns 4 figures monthly in interest MONTHLY if I put my coins there. I also like that I can 'borrow' against the coins without having to sell and incur gains. Can see that as being good for unexpected cash expenditures and allowing one to run a little closer margins on the reserves side, knowing the BTC account is accessible if need be. Otherwise, having been self employed my entire life, I have never felt comfortable unless I had a couple of years living expenses stored in reserve.
Thanks again so much for the nudge in the BlockFi direction. As to the safety, I read a breakdown of the 'black thurs' even from March where the market 1/2'd and BlockFi weathered it fine.

One of my best friends and roommates OD'd on a ********/********** cocktail in 2013... We graduated high school together. Grew weed together. Lived in a big ass house with a bunch of other youngin's. Good times.
He was smarter than me, too....that **** still ****s me up.
Anyway he had hundreds of bitcoins...he was one of those early adopters / silk road / erowid types (2006-2009). Didn't have his account info written anywhere in his belongings though. :/ Makes me feel really bad for his mom. There's just millions of dollars worth of his bitcoins floating around out there for all eternity now. (He had no idea they would be worth millions a few years later, obviously.)
Edit: I don't know if I've just learned to find peace with it, but I feel like it's kind of appropriate now. His last little legacy is that he would have been ****ing rich if he were still here...That's pretty baller I'd say.

I have been doing this a while and I still am nervous as hell every time I have have to move any. Depending on how busy the network is, there is always that anticipation waiting for the transaction to validate. It can be a little scary for sure.

The "OG" coin holder ways were holding your own wallets and doing your own transactions. There is something attractive about that for a small percentage of people who want to be totally independent. But I agree, it scares a lot of people too.
Using one of the big institutions, forces one to comply with KYC/AML, Know your customer, anti money laundering. This means all the guys who dont want to pay taxes on gains cant use these outlets. But "normal' people expect to pay gains on investments.
So the stresses of owning BTC or ETH are really not there for guys who just purchase on Coinbase and keep it there, or paypal. No biggie. Easy as can be.
But when you realize you have a $500,000 thumb drive sitting around, or you have your seeds written on a piece of paper which is equal to the value of a nice home.....it can be very nerve wracking. Not an issue for those who use custodial services.

I really wanted 10 but ended up just under.
Selling right now does really nothing for me either. It would not change anything in my life. I carry no debt and dont need/want anything. Was hoping for it hitting large enough that it might actually change what I do the next day.

But here is a good breakdown.
https://thecollegeinvestor.com/34536/blockfi-review/
They operate like a bank. Offering collateralized loans and adding to the liquidity of the market by providing supply on the institutional level.
Plenty of articles about how the funds are held which is a registered 3rd party. They also did fine on 'black thurs' in march 2020 where the crypto market lost 1/2 its value. I think they have said there has yet to be a default on any loans up to this point.
The way they are structured, if the market moves too much, moving to a 70%ltv, they ask you to provide more collateral or they can sell your funds to cover the loan. Pretty good buffer built in to the system.
Also structured so depositors get paid first and then no 'profit' is made until all debts are covered.

I was nervous as SH!T so I first sent one over and then just sent the remaining 6. Holy cow this gives me an anxiety attack every time I have to do this.
What is nuts is the last transfer was the equivalent of 222k and it cost me all of $7 to complete the transaction. People wonder what 'value' BTC has. I just did that transfer, by myself, at home on a sunday night. It showed up in 90 seconds and then just needed 3 network validations.
This is what is cool about the exchange of ideas. I would have never known about this if not for poking around here. Thanks!
