how fast are you supposed to progress in weight amount?

for example...in a bicep curl what weight did you start with (10-15lbs?) and how fast did you move up to 40lb dumbbell? where are you now?

curious to know...in about a year i've gone from

bicep curl with db 15 ==> 30
ez curl bar 20 ==> 60
arnold db presses 15 ==> 40
ez curl skullcrusher 20 ==> 60 bar

not sure if i'm on the right track..

thats not true for all exercises though...like for lateral and front raises with dumbbells...like i see most people do 15-20lbs and i never see them ever progress to more.

the only thing i see your average gym goer try and go heavier on is dumbell shoulder pressing and dumbell chest pressing...

Brah you don't progress @ 5lbs per week in the upper body, especially after your first 3-4 months

Depends if you are a newbie or not. Newbies gain 10lbs in strength almost monthly for the first couple months. you aren't suppose to be strong in bicep curls though lol

So with a curl say you start off with 5 pounds. It's difficult so you do that for 5 reps for 4 sets.

The more you do it over time it becomes easier. It feels lighter. You can now do 20 reps with the 5 pounds. So you add another 5 pounds. You curl that much with how many reps you can. Eventually that'll get easy. So you add 5 more for that same amount of reps. So on and so forth.

so that seems to be pretty possible for everything except shoulder raises...am i doomed at 20lb dumbells for lateral shoulder raises?

I didn't say you can't progress in 5lbs increments, I said you don't do it every week

At least not natty

The one exception is a complete beginner in his first 8 or so weeks, strength just skyrockets
