What separates the hardcore lifters from the "casual" lifters?

First I would like to state that casual is not a derogatory term. Everyone is in the gym for different reasons, and not everyone is interested in being a huge strong bodybuilder.

Basic definition
Hardcore lifters - very serious about training. Know a lot more about training/nutrition etc than regular gym goers. Are more consistent, and push harder than regular goers. Usually have years of experience under their belt
Casual lifters - Can range from anyone from beginners, those who life just to maintain a decent level of fitness, don't really care about being jacked and shredded, not full into bodybuilding

From my experience (I sometimes observe others and the environment but not too much)
Serious lifters
-USually focus on heavy compounds (bench press, squats, deadlifts)
-Have laser sharp focus, usually with headphones in
-They do socialize, but they keep it to a minimal level
-Always dripping with sweat, from all the heavy lifts
-USually invest a lot in supplements, gear such as belts, straps etc
-Lift with perfect form
--Usually have a workout routine planned
-Regular goers, who turn up with consistency

Casual lifters
-Focus mainly on machines, hardly see them do deadlifts or squats
-They usually stick to comfortable weights, rarely see them go to failure. Their workouts are more relaxing and carefree
-A lot of them see the gym like a bar to socialize, meet new people, chat with girls (nothing wrong about that if the other person wants to socialize as well and they don't take up the machines and make too much noise)

Research, experimentation, and consistency.

Would probably throw in competition as well. Bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting, Strongman.

I agree with everything in the OP except

-Laser focused
-Has headphones in

Choose one. Being laser focused means you don't need music blasting in your ears to get through your work out. Also if you need music to motivate yourself then that's not good either.

Idk about focusing on heavy lifts.. there are multiple comp regional bodybuilders at my gym and used to work out at a gym that a pro and a few small time guys went to. Never see them do barbell bench or deadlift. Squats are all for reps with lighter weight for reps but usually see them doing hack squats

Didn't read wall of text.

The difference is having an actual training and diet program, dedication, consistency. A hardcore lifter may only miss a couple of workouts in an entire year, a casual will miss them all the time, struggle with motivation, won't know what tf they're doing, scared to lift heavy, etc.

The 8th and final rule: If this is your first night at Gym Club....... you have to squat.

Probably because the supplement combination they were on was weakening their connective tissue so were terrified of tearing something. When you're natty or build an actual strength base your joints and connective tissue grow stronger along with the muscle, when you blast gear the muscle grows too quickly for the connective tissue which puts them at risk of tearing chit up, especially at unnaturally low body fat %

There is no such thing as "hardcore". As strength athletes, all that matters is your accomplishments. What are your lifts? What competitions did you win? Who did you beat that day? These arguments about training style are amateur. No one at the show cares. All we know is that today we find out who is the strongest.

Hardcore just sounds like a term for mentally ill people that spend too much time in the gym. The ones “Animal” advertises to.

If you spend more than 5 hours in the gym a week and aren’t making money off of it, you need a better life.

Define hardcore.

I'd say it is consistency. Ninety percent of people who lift will do it consistently for a year or less and then go many years not lifting.

You've all had someone tell you, "I used to look just like you when I was younger and then age caught up to me."

Then there is that 1 in 10,000 that is ripped into his 40'-60's.

That is hardcore to me.

Hardcore lifters: do everything right, lift heavy, make logs of reps and sets. In the gym like clockwork. Barely make any gains.
Casual lifters: take dat dere. Go int to planet fitness and get a quick pump with light dumbbells. Look aesthetic as fuk.

Because you say so? LMAO

The only reason “laser focus” and “has headphones in” don’t go together, is if having headphones in diminishes focus... which, even according to your post, it doesn’t.

There’s a difference between need and want, *******.
I - and I bet most lifters - don’t “need” music to lift as hard or with as much intensity, but it feels really good to blast some awesome music and lift weights.

Tracking progress and continually working ahead.

Competing in either bodybuilding or powerlifting would also make someone hardcore in this lifestyle

Of course this is IMO

I’m probably speaking for people my age. Mid-30’s. At that point in life, you should be too busy to have so many hours in a week to spend at a gym.

10+ years ago, I lifted 7 days a week because I enjoyed it so much. I get it.

Casual lifters = Quit facing the first plateau.

Hardcore lifters = Never quit breaking through hundreds of plateaus.
