Tours Over misc. $100k salary = broke

I don't fully agree with the guy, but $100k definitely isn't what most people make it out to be. $200k is the new $100k

For those who don't feel like watching the video, here's how he broke it down

Retirement contributions and savings are not expenses, yet he proves you still have money for vacation and left over cash flow. Averages are skewed by people doing dumb **** like having $530 car payment, $390 student loan payments, $150 for wifi. Costs of living vary wildly by location.

Yes, costs are increasing, but this type of alarmist **** like saying 100k = broke is dumb AF.

Retirement and savings should be expenses. Are you saying we should just gonna ignore those and think life will be great later on? Every responsible person will take out their checks for those 2 variables. Now if we're talking investments then yeah, not necessary. But retirement and savings are necessary, otherwise you're working the rest of your life

Yeah this. My car payment is 0. Student loan payment 0. Date night isn't 100 4x a month. My internet costs $80 and my insurance premium is $19. Retirement contribution is much higher than the OPs budget though.

It's almost like they purposefully try to make a budget for the least financially responsible person and then say anyone who makes X is broke. lmao

$3k isn't much. That's two 2 week vacations, about $1500 for an entire family. You aren't traveling overseas to something fancy

How much do you spend on vacation with your family?

Doing all that and saving $800/month while still having $740/month left over ainโ€™t broke IMO

Things like car payments and student loans are much more temporary as well. Pay those off, donโ€™t take on more debt, and free up another $920/month in this example

Wait he's saying he's broke when after all that retarded budget he listed he still had an extra 740/month in budgeting?

Brb 9,000/year unaccounted for even with his super irresponsible spending assumptions.

He's budgeted for a lavish lifestyle, is putting money away, and still has some cash left over.

Not sure how that is broke.

Pay for car cash. + $530 per month.
Dont go into debt with student loans. +$390 per month.
Get rid of cable TV. +$100 per month.
Pay car insurance by the year. + $75 per month.
Stop taking ridiculous vacations you can't afford. +$250 per month.

Boom. $2085 per month in your pocket after all expenses. Save/invest that for over 24K per year of gains. Assuming you invest it for 20 years into an ETF with an average return of 10% your looking at 1.5 mil in just 20 years. Not counting your original retirement account.

Or you can be a consumerist cuck and blow all your money for 20 years then complain about the 'rich' people that spent 20+ years grinding and sacrificing to be wealthy.

Agree with most of this, however $3k is responsible for a vacation if you have family and the middle class deserves vacation time.

I feel like the date nights can definitely be lowered, but you'd be stuck going to cheap places like Apple Bee's

Sorry to break it to you but going on a $3000 all inclusive vacation once a year is not a basic right. I have no sympathy for anyone who claims they're, "Broke" but has a $500/mo car payment and spends $3000 on a vacation
I don't know man, anybody that works hard deserves to get away once or twice a year. Like I said, it's not far fetched to spend $1500 on a getaway and then $1500 for another. It's great your family doesn't care for vacations, save way more money that way.

I'd have bought a car with cash, don't know why people choose to spend that much. Worse yet it's probably not even luxurious

Unfortunately many many Americans try to live a LAVISH lifestyle...

Which ends up making them spend money left and right not realizing what they're doing meaning they end up broke.

If you look at statistics over 2/3 Americans don't have emergency funds of over $1000..

its sad we live in what is seemingly "The best country" in the world yet so many Americans are poor due to their life style choices..

But that's not a guaranteed "expense" if you're choosing to go on a $3,000 vacation and still have $9,000/yr left over, you're not broke. Your thread is stupid, get over it.

Had a brand new house built 5 years ago. .33 of an acre. 3 bed, 2 bath 1585 square foot. + attached garage. 20% down. Normal payments 5 years. Just refinanced for a juicy rate of 2.8% for 30 years. Mortgage is $585 per month.
