As you can see, it can go south pretty fast/heavy, but I will have to consider assignment before buying out, because the premiums are fuarkin juicy.
these need to be covered by shares? no?

GME is my final hope tmr.. which going by what the signs are pointing to im gonna be fcked
I actually bought 6k of GME 25C today .. sold for 10% bc the PTSD of the last few days.. right before it blew up and my position wouldve been 2.5x.. proceeded to lose 6k on MARA as it plummeted.. and i panicked..

I think no matter how tmrw goes im going to take a break for a bit.

I sold some $30 covered calls on PLTR for 2/19. If the price hits the strike do I get assigned right away? Or can I get assigned anytime from now until 2/19 while the price is at or above $30?

You can get assigned at any time. Even if the stock doesn't hit 30. However that would be extremely unlikely.

But early assignments do happen. It has to make sense though. Like a dividend coming up.

But again typically assignment will only happen if the strike price is reached on expiration day.

Cathie Woods going in dry on PLTR again today.

News coming up.

I'm not going to now with demo day around the corner this month and annual earnings in March, but if this was a "normal time" for PLTR and we were seeing it oscillate in this $24-$27 band, what would be a tangible example of a reasonable, relatively low risk CC play.

I still don't really understand them, srs. I understand that it's a way to gain yield, but if I want a good chance at keeping my shares, but earning the premium, what would be an example of a play. Lowish risk, lowish reward.

The safest would be to wait for a huge spike then sell a cc with around 10 delta or less with a short expiration and let it expire. Thats a proper theta strategy.

More of a delta strategy would be to wait for a huge spike then sell a cc with delta of around 30 about a month away and then sell for small profit of like 30% since you're trying to keep shares.

Shares get assigned all the time. And selling covered calls generally UNDERPERFORMS in bull markets. The only safe covered calls are the ones that pay low premium and short expiration.

Here you go guys.
for the biggest data I've seen on cc
https://youtu.be/-IE1QM-DdtI

Ive seen ZERO data in selling weekly far otm covered calls. Probably because its obviously profitable?
Not sure.

Edit: love how tom(the host) stays quiet and then says "idk if I agree with that" when he's shown data that covered calls underperforms going long on a stock.

There are multiple strategies for multiple scenarios but I’ll give a very very basic couple.

Weeklies: lower premium but theoretically lower risk because not that much time for IV to pick up.

30+ DTE: juicier premium, often times spend the first half deep in the red but is normal. Waiting for theta decay is where it’s at. But more time for things to go badly but also more time to potentially recover

You can do deep OTM with less premium but that’s where a 30+ DTE would be good but again more time for stuff to go south. Also like I said you often spend the first half of your time in the red so if you want to close your position early you may have to wait a while or do so at a loss.

Now let’s say your chits looking like it’s gonna get called away. The most common option is to roll it up and out. Meaning buy it back (at a loss), but then sell another at a higher strike for a later date. I hate this method tbh. Just ties things up that much longer and easy to get in a never ending cycle

I recently “discovered” something that I thought was super degen but is actually what come to find out is a type of straddle. A current example is my TSLA situation. I had $800cc’s and boy oh boy did that get messy. Since I wanted to keep my shares and not roll the calls,, I decided to sell puts at a strike that I felt confident that I’d get assigned at but after the premium would be at or below my call strike. There is risk in that play as well but that’s just the life of options.

Thx brahs. The only classes I’ve ever had that discussed options were “Money and Banking” and some other similar class that barely skimmed practical finance. in both classes we spent maybe one lecture on options. Tbh I think being Econ professors that they didn’t really understand options beyond simple puts, calls and just had super simple strike price and itm type questions on exams.

The most advanced we ever got was the difference between European and American options (are those even the right terms?, idk)

So I’m leaning no on cc, my risk profile to get assigned is too high, and it would be too much of a headache to just keep playing super safe calls for peanuts. Plus, my fundamental thesis is that PLTR is the real deal, so I would go mental if after waiting a decade I missed some crazy 40% runup.

Using margin is something I’m interested in now. It says for PLTR that there is a special 50% margin requirement. Say I have $10k in an account currently fully invested in PLTR, using zero margin.

How would one change this to use margin (I’m assuming the 50% requirement means I could theoretically have up to $15k long PLTR)? Would I have to sell my shares first and then do something? For the record I use E*TRADE. I’ve searched and can’t find any good info on literally go click by click to use margin.

If I could get that account using margin ASAP I would appreciate it. DEMO day for PLTR is coming and there’s a huge potential with the Army contract they just got into phase 2 with, which I think they announce whether they or Raytheon gets it with a couple weeks.

I have 2/19 $30 CC on PLTR as well with $29 cost basis. My plan is to just double my shares soon at a lower cost basis if I feel that the share price will increase by a fair margin, like right now, that way if I get assigned I’m not out of shares.

^^ Yea PLTR has a special margin requirement and it’s a huge pain in the ass if your account hovers around $25k. The margin used for PLTR isn’t exactly 1:1, there is some verbiage you’d have to read thats pretty confusing to figure it out.

As far as using margin, I thought margin only comes into play when you’ve exhausted your cash balance. There isn’t a way to skip your cash and use margin (not sure why you’d want that since margin isn’t free). To get margin you have to maintain a $25k minimum cash balance and then get approval from your broker.

Fuk me.

Between BB and GME yesterday i ended up going with GME for today’s 1/15 calls.
The BB play would’ve made the money I’m down the last 3 days back..

Fml

Hold me misc. I don’t wanna lose any more money.

Been waiting up all week at like 1am and today 4am, cuz I’m anxious. Gonna hold until at least 10 today before I sell in case of another spike like yesterday.

With the action in gme, and bbby, is a chit-tier stock like AMC next in line to be short-squeezed?

As much as I expect it to go to zero, maybe it'll boost off the same fate.

They are still decent value plays compared to most stock. Although aal is the worst airline. Financially.

is it too early to grab airlines? example american airlines around 16-17 right now, 52wk high was $30.78, seems to be on the rise with all the vaccine talk and stuff. or am i being a noob.
Not sure about entry points as I stopped following once the market kicked on its turbo boosters but I’ll stand by what I’ve always said. Only airlines I’d touch are LUV and ALK. Maybe be better value plays but they will come with significant risk.

Also curious about how travel will be effected now that there is more talk about how even the vaccinated can spread covid.

Related note got my first injection yesterday. Fukkin chit my arm hurts lol

There are options on spacs

On robinhood the greeks are annoying to find. Other brokers display them outright.

Only care about delta crew.
I used to have an AVI of my traps and neck. I changed it a while back and tried editing my user title but this website is glitched and it will not let me change it anymore.
