Job interview Monday. Should I pound a few shots before the call?

I freeze up and act aspie every single interview I’ve ever had. This is my only option I think. I’m great with people, girls, co-workers, anyone really. but when it comes to interviews, I freeze badly. Thinking two shots of whiskey on an empty stomach should take my edge off.

Last interview I had, couldn’t sleep the full night before. Then of course interview went as expected. It’s a fuk’d up trait to have. If an interview was going out and grabbing coffee or a beer with the guy, I’d be hired every single time

Try some coffee and build up your tolerance before with abstinence.

It works. Anything harder, and they will notice you're intoxicated.

I do pretty well on interviews hammered but it takes a certain type of person to do this

I have at least 3 interviews next week - potentially 5 so looks like I’m going to be going on a week long bender

What approach do you take to land interviews?

I’ve used the following message on LinkedIn or something similar multiple times. It’s gotten me a ton of interviews and has led to 2 jobs. Make a list of companies you’re interested in, find hiring managers on LinkedIn and message them. Additionally if you see a job posted on LinkedIn, it’ll usually be posted by HR, it’s not a bad idea to apply but then reach out to directly to the hiring manager (this won’t be hr).

Even if openings aren’t immediate that doesn’t mean they won’t be in the future. You want to create a pipeline of hiring managers that could help you down the line. I remember I messaged this guy, grabbed a coffee with him and came prepared with questions about the company and the industry. Unfortunately there weren’t any immediate roles available but six months later he reached out to me and I was hired. He mentioned he liked the initiative and I stood out from those just applying online. This makes sense too, just by grabbing a coffee with him I was now familiar and had a massive advantage over those who applied via the official job posting. Connections are everything and sometimes you need to go out of your way to make your own connections.

I go into every interview knowing I have the job...they just don’t know it yet.

And they are being interviewed too. It’s not one way traffic.

You might decide they are not for you.

Good call. If you've tanked interviews sober, you might nail them tanked.

Lmao it's Sunday night 7:35pm EST

Unless you're in Aus and pounding back wine at 7:35am for your 8am interview lmao

Which would be legendary tbh (especially if you land it)

I did before my last interview a couple weeks ago

Was actually still drinking during the interview itself

Had a finalist interview last week so it must have worked out okay

Waiting to hear back now, but I’m pretty sure I don’t really want the job

This is good advice too, especially the mindset about it being a two way street

I've had phone interviews where I would drink 1-2 beers before the call to help me relax

I've gotten 2 jobs this way
