Comcast can now charge you more for using the internet too much

In case you aren't aware, Comcast is now charging people if you go beyond the "data" of your internet plan. This is something I've never heard before. It's usually only the case with phone plans, now it's internet too. In the past, you paid a flat fee and could use the internet as much as you want. Now, not only have internet plans gone up in price, but they can charge you additional fees if you use it too much. Holy chit, the days of paying 60$ a month for high speed internet seems to be ending and this terrible, greedy company is monopolizing the industry. Soon just broadband internet will be within 150$ to 200$ a month for basic, high speed internet.

Comcast has had a 1 terabyte limit for some time now. No one actually knows about it because it's quite hard to reach that limit for most people.

I paid $45 extra last month because I went extremely over my 1TB monthly data limit


I'm through Telus and they don't even offer unlimited home data except for a few months as a bonus for signing up for a 2-year commitment or whatever. Doubt many people hit this though, I'm streaming 4k on multiple devices along with other stuff

That’s been standard in satellite for as long as I can remember except they throttle you way back. If you want high speed after your allotment you have to pay more

Google fiber master race. We were the first city to get it rolled out in terms of out of CA and they took everyone away from boomer internet like comcast, time warner, att.

Already use Google Fi. Cannot wait to ditch this trash that is Verizon. When the service works, it's great. When it doesn't, good fuarking luck getting help.

Internet only cost pennies to produce too. There should be a legal percentage limit for corporations to make profit.

This has been like this for a bit. Pre-covid it was only 300gb.

Now mine is 1229gb. Never hit that but I've been over 1tb.

I didn't realize they had that policy in place but now they're actually enforcing it. that's good if most people can't reach that, but I wouldnt be surprised if they lower that limit so more people will go over on data and then charge them. Guess time will tell.

yea but the way they are tracking it is off. people have been hitting their cap a week into the billing period with no extreme usage.

Infrastructure is expensive af... to build underground is looking at around $12-$20 per foot, aerial is around $3-$5 a foot
