I picked up the sheet posted below at the range last year when doing some training. On that sheet is said USCCA membership was 230,000. Today their website says the membership is 400,000+.

I chose USCCA because they have 11 lawyers on retainer in my county alone, and no one who has been involved in a self defense shooting in my state, who is a member, has spent the night in jail after an incident.

Here is a list of what USCCA and US Law Shield, LLP offered in 2020. I have the Platinum membership. No need to go any higher than that unless you own a business that could be dragged into a lawsuit.

So Ive had a BAD lever on my rifle for while. And I liked it.

A point was made on youtube that it can retard you’re training as you rely on it and then if you somehow need to use someone else’s gun it won’t be there and it becomes a problem.


So I’m debating taking it off.

But then I thought in all honesty would I ever need someone else’s rifle? More for SHTF scenarios which likely won’t happen?

Keep it or take off? Discuss

Imo that falls into the 80% of the 80/20 rule.

I say keep it and occasionally train to use the bolt catch the traditional way.

I had one awhile ago. Took it off. Partly the same reason. Partly because it's 'something else to go wrong', more complexity, and completely unnecessary

And no I really don't want to get used to using it and then try to use a gun, any gun, one of mine or another, that doesn't have it

If you're using a BAD lever it really needs to be on every AR you own.

I've never owned one but encountered them a few times...they seem like they'd get hung up on your gear, potentially come loose at the wrong time, or otherwise just be extra stuff on your rifle. Great for shaving off a third of a second on your times during 3 gun or whatever but in real life, you aren't going to die because you didn't hit your bolt catch fast enough. You're going to die for a bunch of other reasons, for which there exists no gadget to remedy.

Do we really expect prices to drop back down again eventually? Seems even with the prices at $1 a round it’s selling out super fast.

Every other panic they've gone down,slowly, and taken literally a year or two to get back to "pretty good" .

But there hasn't even been a 1/300,000,000 psycho go and shoot people, or terror attack using a rifle, or good old fashion false flag, and then specific bills pushed by dems, so...it could get worse...this may not even be peak ammo prices...which is uncharted territory

Had CCW Safe, switched to USCCA since it has more benefits, but costs a bit more.

Edit: CA is reopening a lot suddenly, strange timing given the recall Newsom petition almost has enough signatures and everyone hates him. Surely it's just a coincidence though...

300k away with 1 and a half months left, damn. They should start petitioning outside of gyms, lol

Also, Derek Chauvin will have his trial on March 8th, and March 17th is when the petition deadline expires. So maybe there will be some more rioting from the verdict and a more signatures.

if your hobby is gun training/competition, you’ll need a back-up hobby for the lean times

IIRC he is getting back to drums and has a drum set and is working on sound proofing a piece or part of a room.

on a simliar note, i too, am looking for a leaner hobby. Can't gym THAT often, maybe 1.5 hours a day, reasonably, firearms are expensive, and typically require me to leave the house to use/participate in the hobby, and cars are also very expensive, and very time consuming.

so maybe will look at picking up reasonably priced electric guitar. friend of mine picked one up the other day, nothing fancy, maybe $750 all in for amp, picks, guitar, case and such. tempted to get into that some for a more reasonably priced hobby

Yeah I plan on fishing more this year and shooting less total rounds per trip to the range.

Just bought a ton of lures from Bass Pro.

you fish off a dock/the shore, or you got some sort of a row boat? row boats are giant pita, after after 5 movements or so, the thing will spin in a few circles if i don't correct it. good fun though on a small lake

If you're really super starved for pistol ammo, go once every quarter (once every 3 months) and shoot 100 rounds. Total 400 rounds a year.

Provided you were competent to begin withthat's plenty.

I'd break it down like this as a starting point:

Dot Torture: 50 rounds
5 yard roundup: 10 rounds
Bill Drill: 6 rounds (or The Test 10 rounds)
F.A.S.T.: 6 rounds
5 round slow group at 15-25y: 5 rounds

Total: 77 rounds. Use the rest to work on whatever sucked (or was most fun, whatever) from the above. Combining the above should show you strengths/weaknesses across lots of skills pretty quick

I started collecting sneakers but its getting boring very quickly because I do not go anywhere (pre covid or post covid - I like remaining at home). And I understand I am not supposed to wear the Jordan Shatter Backboard and Chicago Black Toe out and about but then whats the point of collecting them at all?

Lots of books out there to read though...

I'd recommend the Mantis X10 Elite for anyone wanting to practice without using ammo, especially with a Dryfire Mag (if you have a Glock). It's great for working on minor issues.

Found it weird that I had anticipation issues even knowing the gun was not going to fire, tightened my grouping a lot since practicing with it.

I'll fish from shore occasionally, mainly at the ocean, but for bass etc I have a couple kayaks with road holders that are money for getting into spots where regular boats can't go. Like deep into weed beds where the big mamas lurk.

what do you use for the weeds? granted im not big into fishing, but i go maybe 6x a year or so. Everything gets stuck in the weeds, the "frog" that is supposed to "skip" over the weeds and all always gets stuck and big pain
