Family split by politics
Honestly I'm pretty moderate politically. I guess libertarian if I had to choose a side. However I fuking hate the Dems. My family is as left as it gets. They consider themselves socialists, and hate anybody who doesn't share identical beliefs. I don't give a fuk honestly but I can't talk to them without them bringing up politics and speaking about biden like he's the second jesus or something Divine. I tell them I don't want to talk politics but they don't take no for an answer and pretty soon I fall into the trap of arguing and telling them why they are so stupid. I'd be fine disregarding politics but they can't do that. It's like that fat dude who talks about keto every day... They have entirely split off from all other family members because they vote republican. I don't fuking get the hate, why even talk about politics if it just pushes people away?
Anybody else deal with this BS?

Family dynamics are funny OP. Politically, my family and I are all pretty much like minded with "republican-like" values. So we get along when talking politics...But we still cant get along when we talk religion. So we shut each other out because of that.

I'm the only one in my family who doesn't like Biden and I've always said I support Trump, even to my fiancee's family who are immigrants.
They all just said they couldn't stand Trump, and that was it. We didn't agree with each other's point of view, but that was no reason for us to dislike each other ot get into a fight.

Have a small family. One brother, 5 cousins, and an aunt and uncle.
Me my brother and my mom lean conservative while my cousins lean left. One of them works for google and is very liberal but one of the nicest people I’ve ever known. Politics never comes up in the rare event we get together.
But in your case you’re basically talking to a wall. Just sit tight in your little submarine 400 feet below the surface and let the depth charges explode above your head while you stay quiet until you can surface again. Trust me you’ll be happier if you just act like you’re above all that bickering and arguing.

Grew up in a moderately Democratic family. I'm Libertarian leaning. My uncle is a conspiracy theorist of some sort and doesn't trust the Democrats lol. Probably more Libertarian also. My aunt was a secret Trump supporter and my Mom, Grandma, and sister are more left leaning.
The cool thing is we can all talk about our views on politics and not get shunned for them. I've been called a Republican on paper by them due to my ideas but hey we don't always agree with everything and that's alright.

My family mostly leans left, but me and a couple others lean right. We are all pretty moderate though and if conversations get political, they don’t get heated and normally we find a middle ground. Feels good tbh.

People like that are some of the most miserable humans I've ever encountered. They have nothing in their lives but politics and actually think that politicians (rep or dem) really do care about the little man. I know a few people like that and no matter what subject you are on they somehow work a political angle into it.

If you will be receiving a substantial inheritance from your parents, live with it as in the end it will be worth it. If you won't be getting anything from them and if this political divide is too much for you to bear with, cut off contact with them and live life by yourself.

My father and I aren't close like a normal father-son relationship should be. With that said, he said he votes democRAT because his family has always done so for decades. I explained to him the party you voted for back in the 60s-80s is no longer the case. My father literally believes CNN. I straight up told him, "I love you Dad, but you're misinformed and right now you sound really stupid. Please don't say these things in public." Thankfully, my mother is a Republican.

Hopefully now that the election is over people calm down over it. Crazy how politically divisive this country became this last 4 years.

Did you offer them any positives to begin with? If you didn't offer any value to them before they're definitely not going to be able to look past your politics.
Also, consider Trump was an anomaly as a response to Obama. If the left swings more left, expect more polarization.

I kicked my uncle outta my house when covid broke out because he blamed trump for blaming china, told him "This is a red blooded America loving household and I will not tolerate any commie sympathizers" and offered anyone else with the same opinion to hit the door as well. This was a big family gathering and my parents even flew in cross country for it.
They were all also fear shaking me for not being deathly afraid, i told em look as of right now we are getting all of our info from politicians and the media, the 2 entities literally paid to lie to us, watch the death tolls and numbers before getting scared.

My in-laws are hard core libs and it really strains their relationship with my wife no matter how hard we try to avoid discussing politics. They view everything through a political lens. It's truly sad.

Try having basically your entire family be liberals who love ranting about politics together. The most annoying part of it is that they try to frame themselves as "moderate liberals/Democrats" even though they'll typically just roll without leftist talking points the media spews out when push comes to shove. I used to try debating/challening them sometimes, but all it ever did was result in pissing matches.
My Dad was the only relative I've had who was ever willing to express legit support for any conservatives/Republicans, and even he was an old school blue dog 1970's - early 1990's style Democrat for a long time. He started realizing how ridiculous liberals/Democrats were getting with their extremist bs by the 2010's. I noticed that he kind of just sat there and ignored the political "discussions" by my other, much more liberal relatives around that time.
It was crazy how we could be out for a family dinner, even with my (now ex) wife and/or girlfriends of my brother, and they'd still spend at least 50% of the time ranting about liberal politics. I would try debating them sometimes, while my Dad just ate his food or whatever and stayed silent until they were done obsessing over politics. He had the right idea, and I wish I would have caught on sooner.
It's not even worth trying to ask them not to talk politics... your best bet is to just let them rail on with each other for a bit until they eventually get bored and move on. The one exception I have to that rule is one they are at my house, I have a firm expectation of not talking politics with family within my house/property, because I figure they can at least have the decency to respect that there. If they can't, they simply don't get invites/it gets minimized, because I'm not dealing with that bs in my own home.

I think politics is just the catalyst for terrible people to project their inner hatred onto others. Even with Biden in, they are still ranting and raving about Trump.
Happened to my family too. The conservatives are always respectful and mostly keep their mouth shut. The ones who vote left are extreme with their daily hatred, like it's the only thing going on in their life.
My wife is a based as **** immigrant and loves Trump and hates Dems, so I am good to go. Can't imagine marriages where the two sides differ, seems impossible to navigate.

my parents were democrats for a long time until obama came around (mom is from Illinois....never trust a politician from Chicago). my older sister is a hardcore leftist. my little sister doesn't care about politics at all, and i've been a libertarian / Trumplican since i've been old enough to vote (voted for ron paul twice and DJT Twice). mostly i try to avoid politic talk with my sister. luckily she agrees too. we each have our own people we can talk to about politics if we want.
