One of my colleagues at work is in the same position basically as that picture above. He bought a few weeks ago, put £5K in it which is virtually all his money. He showed me when it had doubled and said it was the most money he'd ever had. He's from Wales, family is dirt poor as far as I can tell, his brother is a literal schizophrenic junkie. Yesterday his balance was at £65K and he's holding out still, said the same, maybe sell a bit no Friday or hold for longer, now with an opening price of 500 today his position would be worth £90K.

I bought in at the start of this thread and sold some yesterday for a few grand profit. Still have a handful and seriously considering buying more today.

Has anyone considered the people might be using a chainsaw to cut out the supports that hold up the house they sleep in at night?

I do not work in the financial markets nor do I have a dog in this fight (outside of independent investing) but messing with the market when the global economy is on the ropes might not be a brilliant idea. We are just asking for a global market crash and depression in which the likes the world has never seen, with no way out for a long time.

I have no love for the corrupt system we are operating in but I also like to have a job and eat.

That's very vague.

A few hedge funds could declare bankruptcy, they would likely be bailed out either by buddies or the state, or both. Whether that would have a domino effect on the economy... I doubt it.

It's likely that trading platforms and regulators will just take measures to prevent this from happening again, to give the Hedge Funds a sense of security.

In 07/08 there was a global economic meltdown. Only approx 20 economists are on public record predicting it (I hunted around for who predicted it post meltdown, and it was agreed from a variety of sources only about 20 did). That is an appalling number, and shows how poor their education/models are.

What is even worse is that some of the people who were on public record (Peter Schiff, Steve Keen, Noureil Roubini) then became economic doomsday shills, and they were shown to be wrong.

Economics is a field that I don't personally respect much after seeing that fiasco unfold (I followed it closely post 07/08, and became disillusioned with the field post 2012 when I realized too many of them were not the experts that they pretended to be).

Though, I do listen to macroeconomics investors.
