Do people really think playing a game of gridiron is harder than running a 200km+ ultra?
From what I've seen, a lot of the time they are stationary.

Tennis is up near the top for the best combination of physical and mental requirements. No one can be naturally good at it. Takes an absurd amount of training to develop the shots. And the better you and your opponents get, the more you have to build your athleticism and mental toolbox. Matches can theoretically go on forever. At any moment in the match things can turn around.

The hardest non-contact sport is golf, if you say otherwise you probably have **** hand-eye coordination and have never tried it.

Tennis is right up there as well, because it's extremely taxing on the body as well as technical.

Hardest contact sport is probably AFL, way harder than NFL lol, play for nearly 2 hours non-stop, no padding etc. watch it on youtube if you never have
*Always flex in public because arms too small crew*

*You'll never be like zyzz brah crew*

Ultras are not competitive. Training consists of barely challenging longer workouts and long runs, with no real concern for staying thin enough because it's so easy to burn fat on those levels. When in shape for distance running, 2 miles slower than threshold pace feels exactly as hard as 15 miles. You can almost fall asleep.

Something like 1500-10,000 elite work is much higher level.

This guy won the 1500 in the Olympics.

I might consider hockey harder. More competitive, still physically demanding, contact.

Street hockey is one thing. Skating is way harder than you're making it out. Playing at a professional level, they can hit 30 MPH. Totally underselling how difficult it is.
NHL players can reach speeds in excess of 20 miles (32 km) per hour on the ice. Some speed skaters have been clocked at over 30 miles (48 km) per hour!
My uninteresting answer is I think all the sports have different ways in which they're difficult or easier. There is no definitive "toughest" sport. Combat sports are definitely the most damaging, long-term, I imagine.

Different type of type of animal, I guess. I try to imagine being a doped up twinkcel and racing a bicycle 2000 miles up the goddamn French Pyrenees for 2 weeks. Apparently they look half dead by the end and are bedridden for 2+ weeks, sleeping for 18 hours/day. But football injuries are traumatic and chronic, experiencing forces similar to moderately severe car accidents every week.

Imagine if these dudes suited up against the all blacks lol. They would need a whole bunch of ambulances. Would be a literal bloodbath.

Blows my mind how unaware aussies and britbongs are about the NFL. They are a completely different species than whatever twinks you have there.

Here's the guy on the left (6'4", 230) chasing down a guy who runs a 4.4.

Boxing probably takes more skill but mma takes more balls. The unpredictability of fighting a guy who's evenly matched in a sport where you can lose so many different ways is nuts.

Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

My mask is a colorful bunch of sweet tarts...no kidding! Does that seem appropriate for the misc for V Day or am I being a little salty here?? I never know.

Edit to stay on topic: Gymnastics is a brutal sport. It's not for everyone- not everyone can compete in it. And you have to start around 6 years old in order to even have a chance to compete at Olympic level.

I've done pretty much every sport out there, and the hardest personally for me was Water Polo.

I'm sure wrestling is similarly demanding, but in Water Polo you don't really get to take breaks at all. You're treading water and swimming all out constantly for like 30 minutes and you have to be in amazing cardiovascular shape to not be completely gassed.

Iron Man/Ultra Triathlons and ultra endurance sports. Its not even debatable. Lets not get into discussing being a pro/ #1 in the world at any particular thing because obviously genetics matters with that.

Just about anyone without physical handicap can train and do MMA, Boxing, Wrestling, Football, Basketball, gymnastics, etc. You may not be world class but you will be capable of playing a game/match/fight at a low level and completing it.

Completing an Iron Man/ultra Triathlon is a whole nother animal entirely. Assuming you are an average guy and aren't an accomplished endurance athlete you're going to need to dedicate your life to training/preparing for about 3 years before you even attempt it. Lets say you spend three years preparing. Diet on point entire time. Never miss a training day. On track and doing everything correctly. The chances of you actually successfully making it on your first attempt is low. Which is why a lot of people do many half iron mans first.

I grew up doing wrestling, martial arts, boxing, etc. Yes it sucks to get hit and you can get hurt. Yes its physically taxing. But I also know guys that amateur fights/matches after only training for 3-6 months. And it wasn't even a big deal for them.

As long as you define ‘athletic’ as pushing someone for 5 seconds then sitting down for a rest

Take an 18-20 year old in great shape who has never played baseball and see how long it takes him to not look like a spastic throwing a ball and hitting a ball. Odds are he will quit.

I'd imagine you can say something similar about dudes on ice skates. Meanwhile it doesn't actually take long to adjust to other sports like football, basketball, soccer.
