Is the Hobbit Trilogy worth watching?
Remembering trying to watch the first one when it first came out and I couldn't make it all the way through because I was expecting it to be true to the novel.
I want to see Smaug phuck **** up though

Yes, it’s only bad if you expect LOTR levels of greatness. Think of it completely independent to LOTR and you’ll enjoy it.

Didn’t care for the movies except for a few isolated scenes. Smaug and Bilbo talking in the Lonely Mountain was pretty good imo

100% Worth it.
But the CGI is a little much, especially on the faces. Some of the characters look like a beauty filter from Instagram was applied to their faces.

CGI is terrible and it sucks compared to LOTR, but the dragon is pretty epic and so is the final battle, even if the cheese factor is high and there are lots of cringe worthy moments.

Yes it has some good moments and is mostly enjoyable except for a few parts, but don't expect it to be too similar to or nearly as good as the book, plot wise or thematically. That dampened my first viewing of it. Martin Freeman does a great Bilbo and Ian McKellen as Gandalf alone is worth it.

It's a little bloated at 3 movies. And it did take me a few watches to really get into it. I hated it at first because I wanted LOTR part 4-6. Just go into it with a clear mind and no massive expectations and you'll enjoy the ride

Not terrible, most of the CGI scenes (like when they escape in barrels) are flat out awful. I think you could probably sit down and read the entire book in the same amount of time it would take to watch the movies so as others have said they are a bit stretched.
Other than the laughable CGI they are decent.

Its very pretty and the extended versions actually add to the move (whereas LOTR 1 and 2 the extended takes away for me by being too humorous)
Go in with the mindset that the hobbit movie was more geared for children of those who were in their 20s when LOTR first came out. So you dont get the same suspense and sense of danger until the last movie (where the children would be a little older - similar to how the Harry Potter movies "aged" with the audience in terms of content).
Visually I think its superb though some feel they used too much CGI.

Depends. If you read the books or expect LoTR quality, then it's hot trash. If not, then they're probably passable.
Jackson & Co. got greedy and full of themselves and tried to milk the Hobbit by turning it into 3 movies and adding a lot of their own nonsensical bloat. Should have been one movie, and done to LoTR standards.

I’m a pretty big Tolkien fan and I just watched them for the first time last week. I was expecting to dislike it, so wasn’t expecting much
Aaand was about as much ass as I expected. The worst issue was the fake as ****, SUUUPER overused CGI. It looks so horrible. I’m rewatching the original trilogy and I’m speechless wondering how the quality in visuals dipped so much.
Acting wise it wasn’t bad. Seemed like a lot of fanservice stuff was in it though. Tauriel was a pointless addition but at least her character was ok, Legolas was just completely unnecessary.
I don’t regret watching it, it was entertaining enough to finish, but I’ll never rewatch it.

Legolas being a Ninja which doesn't align with how he was portrayed in the LOTR films.

I actually just re watched the entire extended trilogy on blu-ray recently. I will echo what others have said in that you should not go into it with LOTR expectations. LOTR is the goat to me and cannot be touched. I was also hoping for basically LOTR 2.0 the first few times I watched the Hobbit and was always a little disappointed
It's actually a trilogy I appreciate more now that I have watched it a few times. You still have fantastic music, amazing scenery and imagery, and the whole tale does still feel quite epic. Bilbo imo is actually a really great character, much more entertaining imo than Frodo in LOTR. The scenes with smaug and the riddle game with gollum are really entertaining. Some of the dwarves hold their own, Kili is really good, Dwalin Balin and Biffur pretty good. Gandalf is entertaining as always and they really nailed Thranduil
One thing to remember is that the hobbit is more of a children's book, so the movies do have a bit more of a childish and carefree feel than LOTR. I think it hurts them a bit especially in action / battle scenes where things just get a little too over the top. Especially in the battle of five armies, which IMO was set up.amazingly but just fell really flat. There is also a ton of CGI which can get annoying at times
The biggest issue people have is with the liberties they take with the story. There are a lot of things that are improvised that have no roots in the book at all. I think they had to do this to get 3 movies out of such a small.book. To me they work and they arent really that insulting, I think the improvs were done fairly well, but I can see how purists would get mad.
All in all it's a solid trilogy to spend a weekend watching. Give it a go with an open mind (I'd recommend the extended versions) and see how you feel
