My sister is a teacher. The teachers union in her district was fighting the school board about going back in person after the holidays. The school board put out a survey to the parents to see if they wanted to come back to judge the want vs the need.

The teachers started posting the survey links on their ******** for anybody to take (not just kids in the district) stating they didnt want to die. The school board ended up with 4X the number of votes of the kids in their district.

..So the school board made the teachers come back in to school because they couldnt get accurate survey data...I chuckled.

It's funny because on one side, teachers in heavy unions and liberal cities teachers don't want to go back. My sister lives in Chicago, and the Union there is among the worst.

But I also have friends here where I live that can't wait to go back and teach in person and hate teaching online.

Except your math doesn't take into account that not everyone has contracted it.

Using your own logic, there's been 103 million cases worldwide. There's been 2.24 million deaths. That's not 0.33%, dumbass

Even if we use your non-sourced or probably biased source statistics that is 97.9% survival rate for all people, including those in hospice care, elderly, obese, malnourished, multiple medical conditions.

Second of all, those are only reported cases. There are many more people who have contracted Covid but never got tested so they don’t show up as a case.

I don’t expect you to know this since your math education is horrible. But the larger the denominator the survivablity percentage increases (that pesky reciprocal that you don’t understand shows up here).

So even if with your probable biased sourced information, we can see that Covid is no big deal for overwhelmingly majority of the population.

Before you ask, no I don’t give a **** if you or anyone else in your family contracts it.

Why don’t you put your previous post that you deleted that showed your math skills?

The other aspect that people don't take into account - the infection rate in the US is still just 8% of the population. Now granted there are the untested, but it's still a ridiculously low number.

Teaching, i.e. imparting knowledge and evaluating students, can be done online (well for the first part, so-so for the second). Babysitting, on the other hand, can't. I guess it all depends on what you consider a teacher's job to be...

I'm pretty neutral on teaching online, but I teach adults (and 17-year-olds). I wouldn't want to go back in class either if I had to deal with 14-year-old budding juvenile delinquents, lol.

I have a bachelors in math and computer science. I screwed up the total number of cases in the US in my math, but at least I deleted my incorrect information.

So you're fine with permanent organ damage, even if you do survive? Jeez, you miscers really are sociopaths.

In my school (NYC), all admin and teaching staff are present but very few kids. Parents are still reluctant to send their kids to school. Most kids also just want to stay home rather than come to school. Can you blame them? They are not required to show up for the full class session (if they show up for just 10 minutes and not login the rest of the day, that's counted as attendance). They don't have to do all the homework or class assignments, and the scoring system is very simple and basic (ex. Progress, Needs more Progress etc) and there's no danger of failing.

Great. "More" deadly doesn't mean anything. The number of infected people dying is less than 5% no matter how you calculate it.

GF is in negotiations with the teachers' union now. For some reason they let millennials get involved - they want 30 paid sick days a year and 3 weeks paid vacation.

Well here are some numbers...

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1....23.20160895v7

Results Our analysis finds a exponential relationship between age and IFR for COVID-19. The estimated age-specific IFR is very low for children and younger adults (e.g., 0.002% at age 10 and 0.01% at age 25) but increases progressively to 0.4% at age 55, 1.4% at age 65, 4.6% at age 75, and 15% at age 85. Moreover, our results indicate that about 90% of the variation in population IFR across geographical locations reflects differences in the age composition of the population and the extent to which relatively vulnerable age groups were exposed to the virus.

Pretty fukin' low.

People, in general, need to put irrational fear/paranoia aside and look at this from a more logical standpoint.

I'm just ready for kids to be back in class. They need to be taught in person. Way to many (mine included) think this is a mini vacation and don't take it serious. It is constant baby sitting while trying to work full time. Most kids arent disciplined enough to be trusted to do work on their own. I can also see the quality of the education taking a nose dive too.
Teachers in my area are split about teaching in a classroom again.

I'm a teacher from that state and will say we all don't want to be out, in fact, we all want to return as much as the parents do. So to call us trash is actually quite insulting considering I have been doing my job during the entirety of this pandemic. On top of that, my district has an extensive plan for returning. We are ready to return when we can safely with our schedules already set and a hybrid model already put into place when we start returning.

My workload has tripled since this school year has started. I still have a full class (36 students) for a normal school year, I am still expected to fulfill nearly impossible 504/IEP requirements. Not to mention the giant language, cultural, and generational barriers that have basically become more of an issue.

I have twice as long office hours as I would normally have. I still run student clubs in a distance platform. The process of contacting a parent has went from a simple phone call or email to a slew of additional proof forms for the state. Stuff I could do normally with technology, and would have been able to implement easily on this platform was immediately blocked by my district enforcing a super slow, very stupid program. What used to take a few seconds to grade per student is now 1-5 minutes due to how bad the grading program we are forced to us is. What used to be a 30 minute session of grading papers on my personal program is now a 2 hr process thanks to google classroom. Every week there is some new bullchit thing being thrown in our faces. From the ridiculous hoops to prove we are teaching, to the state's additional bs crud that is purposely designed to cause an audit that some wonderful republicans in the state pushed in the hopes they can justify cutting funding to schools. Oh and not to mention the fact we are still required to administer state testing and can be still held liable for students cheating and our state is still doing our accreditation processes for school, so we still need to build and present data for the WASC team that will somehow rate us. You try getting 36 students to write a state or district required essay or take a test with them all in different locations. Some of my kids aren't even in the same freaking time zone.

Then we have staff who still work in our schools who keep them clean, maintenance or are essential office staff. Almost half of them have gotten covid and we have lost some very good people to the virus as well. I will also be loosing some amazing colleagues since they are retiring at the end of the year due to a golden handshake being offered for qualified people. It's not all sunshine and rainbows for private schools, or charters who chose to stay open. People are getting sick left and right and in the end most of their students are placed on distant learning because of catching the virus. If we were to be in person in my district all it would take would be 1 person to catch it in a class for the whole class to be distant learning for the remainder of the school year.

We are in support of us staying on distant learning until it is safe for us to return. My county is no where ready for vaccinations of my group since the elderly population is one of the largest in the state. I know that my district union and our superintendent is in support of us all to stay safe. Plus, the more than 3 quarters of the families of my district are choosing a distant platform until a vaccine is readily available. That is what the unions are fighting for, to ensure it is safe for us, the students and their families. In my district alone the area is one of the worst hit spots of my county, and is the reason why we haven't left our purple tier. I'm not going to die because my state has a piss poor vaccine rollout and our governor is trying to appease to voters.

But no, clearly people here know best.
well gee IDK maybe tell your unions to advocate for these problems to get fixed instead of fighting to keep you staying home after shot 2 and watching day time soap operas

Wife is in education (not a teacher anymore) and I have friends that are teachers and administrators. To those teachers busting their ass trying to make this work, kudos to you.

To those teachers cruising and not doing chit, F off and find a new career. And, yes, you should be working twice as hard to find new ways to keep kids engaged.

Grades are down significantly across the board.

My wife is a teacher in the KC area (Kansas side). They've been in person since August. Literally no issues. Everyone wears masks, uses hand sanitizer, and spreads their desks out a little more. School dances, sports and everything have been going on. The other teachers around the country scared to go back are a laughingstock.
