What other union actively fights to keep their members from working

The teachers in this case still get paid so they dont give a fuk. muh "health and safety" and "life in danger" if they had to go back to work for a cold with a 99.9% survival rate and vaccine is out.

I guess parents are supposed to just not work and sit at home and do the teachers job for them while they still get paid.

America's education system has become a complete disaster.

Now, as a grown man looking back, I realize most of my public school teachers the most toxic, petty, immature and mean-spirited people I've ever encountered.

Most female teachers were vindictive and prone to temper tantrums, and the male teachers were insecure ego-fragile goons that liked to bully the boys and perv out on the girls.

The public school system was very much similar to a prison - boys had to stand up to bullies on the school yard and stand up to harassment from teachers.... and when school was over and we walked or rode our bikes home, we'd have cops tailing us and intimidating us....


If I have kids, I'm not sure if I'd want them in public school. On one hand, it's a rite of passage for all boys to stand up to bullying, but on the other hand, I know that the school system is even worse now than when I was a kid and my future sons or daughters will end up being used as pawns in a power game by liberal authoritarians.....

If anything, a teacher's workload has doubled. School's are still open to vulnerable and pupils of key workers. In our case, we have around 15 pupils in each class still coming in. On top of teaching kids in school, we also have to plan, upload and mark activities for remote learning, for pupils at home. So no, we're not getting paid to do nothing!

Teaching is a relatively low paying job in general, meaning it's not going to attract the best candidates. Imagine wanting to be a teacher when you can make a lot more in other fields and not have to deal with chithead kids every day

I'm a teacher from that state and will say we all don't want to be out, in fact, we all want to return as much as the parents do. So to call us trash is actually quite insulting considering I have been doing my job during the entirety of this pandemic. On top of that, my district has an extensive plan for returning. We are ready to return when we can safely with our schedules already set and a hybrid model already put into place when we start returning.

My workload has tripled since this school year has started. I still have a full class (36 students) for a normal school year, I am still expected to fulfill nearly impossible 504/IEP requirements. Not to mention the giant language, cultural, and generational barriers that have basically become more of an issue.

I have twice as long office hours as I would normally have. I still run student clubs in a distance platform. The process of contacting a parent has went from a simple phone call or email to a slew of additional proof forms for the state. Stuff I could do normally with technology, and would have been able to implement easily on this platform was immediately blocked by my district enforcing a super slow, very stupid program. What used to take a few seconds to grade per student is now 1-5 minutes due to how bad the grading program we are forced to us is. What used to be a 30 minute session of grading papers on my personal program is now a 2 hr process thanks to google classroom. Every week there is some new bullchit thing being thrown in our faces. From the ridiculous hoops to prove we are teaching, to the state's additional bs crud that is purposely designed to cause an audit that some wonderful republicans in the state pushed in the hopes they can justify cutting funding to schools. Oh and not to mention the fact we are still required to administer state testing and can be still held liable for students cheating and our state is still doing our accreditation processes for school, so we still need to build and present data for the WASC team that will somehow rate us. You try getting 36 students to write a state or district required essay or take a test with them all in different locations. Some of my kids aren't even in the same freaking time zone.

Then we have staff who still work in our schools who keep them clean, maintenance or are essential office staff. Almost half of them have gotten covid and we have lost some very good people to the virus as well. I will also be loosing some amazing colleagues since they are retiring at the end of the year due to a golden handshake being offered for qualified people. It's not all sunshine and rainbows for private schools, or charters who chose to stay open. People are getting sick left and right and in the end most of their students are placed on distant learning because of catching the virus. If we were to be in person in my district all it would take would be 1 person to catch it in a class for the whole class to be distant learning for the remainder of the school year.

We are in support of us staying on distant learning until it is safe for us to return. My county is no where ready for vaccinations of my group since the elderly population is one of the largest in the state. I know that my district union and our superintendent is in support of us all to stay safe. Plus, the more than 3 quarters of the families of my district are choosing a distant platform until a vaccine is readily available. That is what the unions are fighting for, to ensure it is safe for us, the students and their families. In my district alone the area is one of the worst hit spots of my county, and is the reason why we haven't left our purple tier. I'm not going to die because my state has a piss poor vaccine rollout and our governor is trying to appease to voters.

But no, clearly people here know best.

The simple reason here is that the longer it goes, the more people are exposed to the scam that is schools and universities (specifically universities), with companies such as Google and big known universities creating certificates and curriculums that last 6 months (also gets you a foot in the working world) at most for prices which are 1/10 (up to 1/100) of a complete university diploma full of useless courses, the university scam is on its last legs.

My oldest daughter is in Grade 2 and her teacher has been the worst at online learning because it allows her to be lazy. And she's older and doesn't even have any kids at home to justify her being busy. Literally every Zoom call is five minutes of talking and then "go on this app and do this". At least in classroom she can't get away with it all the time.

I have tons of respect for teachers that actually want to do their jobs. The ones who farm it in are the worst, and especially for small kids. Just retire already.

Life in danger yet even the inflated statistics are so minuscule. lol they just want more, that's really all there is to it.

I hope that the teachers unions allow schools in other states to reopen. From what I've been reading in person learning is better for students. From what I've read it has been a bipartisan issue too. As an example ~

Here in Florida public school are open and there hasn't been issues with the COVID virus thankfully. With sensible safety measures other states schools should be able to do the same as Florida.

I’d be a lot more appreciative of teacher union if they admitted they were the largest cause of systemic racism in the United States, and then started working to correct the problems they’ve caused.

Having said all this, I talk to my wife constantly about homeschooling our eventual children.
