I havent followed this on a day to day basis, but as a gambler i would have opened a massive short position when it hit $400, it was a no brainer
Are there any documented cases of anyone entering a massive short position at $400?
That Kitty guy should have pulled it off, imagine getting out at $400 for $50 million, then opening a huge short to multiply your money in a week

People do not know when to take profits or when to cut losses. They talk themselves into holding for massive losses. Read the post it people try to justify holding. Some of those fools has massive gains and are giving them all up. Also once the public is aware the games over, the public is the buyer at the end of the line.

Unfortunately you shouldn't put money in something you know or understand completely just because you thought you might make a buck or get rich quick. Same people that buy the lotto probably went in on this. Part of me feels bad for the incompetent, but I think people should be free to make their own decisions too.

What exactly were people expecting to happen? It went up >2000% and hedgefunds lost billions. That's a success story from every angle isn't it?
I doubt that the average person still caught up in this even understands that in order to sell a stock someone else needs to buy it.

When it vaulted to $400 no one thought that was the top. Tons of people thought it would keep going. Hindsight is always 20/20.

i don't agree with the censorship. clearly there's some misinformation there but if we banned everything that had misinformation on it, the internet would cease to exist
the saga was fun to watch early on but when robinhood and all them changed the rules and limited buying, it was clear that the system was rigged against the retail buyer. that should have been a clear sign to either get out immediately or just stay away. it's unfortunate for those that got burned but they made bad decisions and decisions have consequences. the sad part is that most of them only did it for internet points. i hope the upvotes were worth it

don't spend anything you can't afford to lose.

I truly don't think this was a pump-and-dump. I think the large players that run the market were caught with their pants down and WSB attempted to capitalize.
Unfortunately they underestimated how much power these people have. Everyone is in their back pockets: politicians, media outlets, banks, etc.
It wasn't a fair fight, but as someone else mentioned, it really has brought to light how fuked this country really is, and how much power the elite have here.
We've always heard that we live in an oligarchy, but the events of this proved it.

PLENTY of warning signs to sell. The bag holders were mostly first time investors who have no idea how the stock market works

Doge coin, Bed Bath Beyond, Blackberry, AMC, Best Buy were all by definition a pump and dump. Garbage stocks with terrible value being bought in a frenzy solely based on memes/hype/BS and not at all with fundamentals. Money to be made if you were in at the start but it is crystal clear that there would be winners (those who were in early, or have common sense) and losers (diamond hands, hold the line, new investors who had FOMO, aka bag holders).

There were definitely a few conversations in there that looked suspect where people were trying to convince others to help them literally move the price, and there's absolutely some bot activity, but nobody needs to ban anything because some people took bad advice and overextended themselves without an exit plan.
People are free to talk about stocks and lose their money. I do wish there'd been more people warning newbies about the stupidity of the "we're sticking it to the elites" narrative that took over - you're trying to win a round of the game and stack some cash, that's all - but that's life. A large amount of taxpayer resources will be expended theatrically and, unless something really incredible is uncovered, that'll be about it.
It wouldn't surprise me though if brokers tighten up on margin applications going forward. They must have been chitting bricks when they realized how fast some of these people with no chance of repaying were positioned to go under deep.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

I got sucked into this temporarily lmao although I only bought 1 share at 200 and ended up selling it for 120. Opened a put not too long after and I’m in the green on this ****.
WSB became a cult with all the new members that joined. sub went from 2mil to 8mil+ thanks to GME. For most of the new members it’s their first time trading stocks and they’re yoloing their life savings into a meme...Some of the things people are doing on there is insane. Saw 1 guy who put a lot of his own money into it + took his gf’s money without letting her know because he wanted to surprise her when it moons...
