If you were forced to move/take a job in either of those cities, which one are you taking?

They're not far from each other but I recently had to consider that choice and chose Portland.

What changed my mind was something called the Seattle Freeze, where for some reason outsiders have a more difficult time breaking into their social circles.

I've only been to Seattle, and there were some things I really liked about the city, but even then it was full of degenerates and the like (and this was before all this ANTIFA and Chaz type shyt). The amount of clearly phucked up homeless people around was staggering.

Portland looks like it has quite a bit of geographical beauty, but like I said - never been there. Also, full of ANTIFA *******s - though not sure which is worse in that regard.

COL would probably be the determining factor, and I'm guessing there probably isn't a big difference there either. In that case maybe the tiebreaker would be the fact that ******* Wincel lives in Portland, and therefore...Seattle.

I’d choose Seattle. But I wouldn’t live there. I’d live in Bremerton, where it’s nice, and take the ferry to commute.

Seattle because I could go to BC every weekend.

Between these two I'd choose Portland. It's a smaller city and you can live for cheaper there. Seattle has all of the crappy elements of the PNW with the added downside of higher costs.

That being said, I've never visited either city and the PNW is beautiful but just not really my vibe.

3. a bullet

I'm from the NW and have lived in both. The correct answer is neither, but if you must, Seattle:

- Despite the retarded politics in both cities, there's 0 state income tax in Seattle. Portland has some of worst taxes in the country because they have 0 sales tax and basically cuck their the hell out of their residents on income while people from Vancouver, WA hop over the bridge and buy chit without paying income or sales tax.

- Speaking of politics, even though people in Seattle are Liberal, they're less activist about them/in your face because people have actual jobs/lives out there. Portland is where pot heads and artists w/ no income prospects moved since PDX was way cheaper for a while than SF/Seattle. That COL gap has closed but there's still not a ton of super high-paying jobs in PDX like there is in Seattle, so Portland still attracts hipster doofuses instead of career-oriented libs like Seattle.

- Outdoor recreation-wise, which is the best thing Portland has going for it, Seattle has as much, if not more. The whole city is surrounded by water and it has taller mountains nearby too. This is in addition to the fact that it's a much more cosmopolitan city overall (see point 2)

- Socially, Seattle was way better IMO because there's more diversity in thought and ethnicity out there. Portland is an overwhelming white city and is just as cliquey as Seattle (regarding the "Seattle Freeze") with regards to people sticking to their own groups. At least if you're an Asian brah who is interested in tech or finance, there's tons of Asians, tons of tech people in general, and there's also a solid crowd of young professionals in stuff besides tech (i.e. marketing, fashion, etc.) because major headquarters like Nordstrom, Starbucks, etc. are also in Seattle. Portland has Nike, Intel, and then a bunch of craft breweries/coffee shops for baristas to earn their living at basically.

- Food-wise, I can't really comment. Apparently Portland wins in this category according to people who have lived in both, but I'm sure you won't starve in Seattle.

The only way I can think of Seattle being worse than Portland is if you're in a low-paying field. Seattle is quite expensive because there's so many nerds at Amazon/Microsoft these days making $120K right out of school and bidding up housing. Portland is slightly more livable from that standpoint, but I'd choose Seattle in a heartbeat if I could afford it.

Both city centers suck major dink srs, but West hills in Portland is pretty GOAT. If you live out east from Seattle off I90, this is your back yard:

The Seattle area has the ugliest population of people I've ever seen. Its actually quite remarkable. Almost everyone looks slovenly and unkempt. Finding someone with clear skin is a needle in a hay stack

Op the answer is neither, never lived in Portland but IMO living in Seattle is MAJOR COPE; people there are obsessed with work and have no families except “fur parents,” of course, and live for work. They cope by working and claiming to love the rain all year, but in reality they’re overworking themselves because they’re not talented enough/rich enough for NYC and are too ugly for SoCal or S Florida


Summers there are GOAT, however, just EXTREMELY short and everything outdoors is massively overpriced and overcrowded
