Misc I need help. Just moved into an apartment on Monday and am finding roaches (srs)

I'm creeped out and feel disgusted. It's only me and my dog, and I want to move out of this apartment already. Completely brand new to this area, don't know anyone, and am stressed out with starting a new career in a complete new location. I just don't know what to do, and if I'm able to get out of my lease and just move out. It's an apartment complex and i'm currently in Texas.

Since it's an apartment complex, that means the roaches are not just in my apartment.

Brahs any guidance and help is much appreciated.

Put away your food right away after eating and wash the dishes right away. Make sure all food and water is sealed up whenever you aren't eating it.

Most likely the previous resident left dirty dishes/food out and the roaches got accustomed to it. When you take away the food source they disappear pretty quickly.

First and foremost notify the apartment complex. Document anytime you've contacted them and their response.


They should definitely jump the gun and get pest control out there. Last thing a decent apartment complex wants to do is deal with a massive roach infestation + losing tenants over it.
If they fail to address it properly. Use all documentation of contact as a way to get out of the lease. Especially if they're not doing anything to fix it.

Thanks, I just emailed the assistant manager. Just so I can start a paper trail. I will be going to her office first thing in the morning, demanding action as well.

Apparently this apartment complex was bought out from new owners about a month ago, and I think they're private owners. Not too sure, forgot what the manager told me. Just moved to Houston.

TBH I’ve seen roaches in some fancy hotels and friends of mine who worked in nice restaurants have told me some stories. Those fukers find a way to get anywhere. I think being away from high traffic/highly populated areas probably helps the most.

Find a clause in the rental agreement that will allow you to get out of your contract due to infestations etc.... Move to the country and get a job in a corner store and work 10 hours a week. If you have a dog, you should not be living in an apartment, or anywhere near a city.

I hear you man dealing with pests in apartments sucks .
Reminds back in September i moved out of this really dumpy studio apartment after one night i discovered a bed bug crawling down the wall. It ran away before I could identify it so I didn't freak out

Next thing you know one day I was getting into my car and I found a bed bug crawling across the steering wheel . That was the last night I ever spent in there...



Also about the roaches ... I was at this girls place who I just met ( really old sorta run down high rise ) and I remeber using the bathroom...and right when I got into the bathroom I saw a roach scatter.

Don't know what you should do but honestly what I learnt about apartments is that you are either in the most up scale place in town or you will have to worry about chit like that in most places

If you have no other chose, try to get management to deal with it . If you can manage , find better accommodation.
