I'm a few pages back getting caught up so I probably missed the discussion regarding less lethal force, but...

Ed Calderon is a huge proponent of saps/blackjacks. They're probably one of the best as they're easy to train to use and extremely effective. Pretty sure that Shivworks is big on them too (iirc).

If you're in a "non permissible environment" you can get some that basically are "coin purses" to carry for self defense.

Good option for if a larger/more physically capable person wants to fight you and you can't just go straight to deadly force.
