Ice fishing has been pretty scetchy this winter. Went last weekend and finally had some ice that didn't sound like a bullet ricochet every step you took. But the fishing was good so I'm sure you'll kill it

Swing by my critter thread and share your catch. Was well within bow range of 4 bulls yesterday nowhere close to the rut. Things looking good for fall bow season.

Fuks ya boyo.


Hoping to get a black bear tag this year, really want to play around with a bear carcass.

Other than that salmon fishing with my 6 year old, a couple other fishing trips to reservoirs (dworshak in Idaho around elk river is my favorite early summer camp spot), deer and elk tags and a few duck hunting trips will probably be my season this year.

Been thinking at looking into how to tan/cure hides myself but don’t have the space yet.

Currently posting from ice shack.

Got 22lb, 37" lake trout two weeks ago here. Smoked it, and damn is it ever good.

Hunting season was good this year. Full freezers.

Currently have a bunch or rabbit snares out and got one yesterday. Snowed two feet this weekend though, so gonna have to go reset them all

My fall consisted of two bear, two deer, countless ducks and grouse, and 1600 inches of total caught walleye.

Elk is on the bucket list.

Yesir, yee haw! Maw and paw raised a real good ol’ country boy.

In all seriousness I have never been hunting nor do I want to, I went fishing once and don’t want to again. But I do frequent the range with my Father.

However if I had to hunt and fish to survive I wouldn’t have any problems doing so. The whole hunting and fishing culture isn’t and wasn’t something that was common in my area.

I think the idea that if someone does these things that makes them a real man is a bit silly though. If anything I think if we are talking on a straight primitive level, it would be arguable that being a “real man” would have more to do with ones capability in unarmed combat rather than how frequently they shoot defenseless animals. I’m not against most hunting though, unless we are talking trophy hunting.

I've never purposely put animal piss on myself.

Harvesting your own free wild meat isn't doable by everyone for a variety of reasons. That's why there is factory farming where livestock lives in damn near squalor, never know freedom, are loaded onto crowded trucks, and listen to and smell death as they wait their turn on the kill floor. The hormones and antibiotics are a nice touch too.

But hey, you do you. Billions of people rely on it, so why not

My 2021 list

Duck, turkey, elk, whitetail, and some large predetor. Leaning towards wolf if I can draw a tag

If you enjoy what society has become and the domestication of mans physical capabilities that’s fine. We have evolved to more superior methods of doing things given technology and using our intellect. But refusing to understand the deep connection things like hunting, martial arts, fishing, wildcrafting, foraging have to us as our basic tools of survival if all we have is our body... is cope for being out of touch with what it means to be in this world as a human. let alone the increased instinct men should have for this due to testosterone.

Wife buys chicken every so often and wings once in a while, and I make exception when on the road...them Wendy's spicy chickens are damn good...


But yes, pretty much live solely on what I harvest.

Freezer has several hundred lbs of all kinds of critter in it. Bear, grouse, rabbit, fish, deer, moose, duck...

I will be starting to film my adventures soon and will hopefully have some video episodes to share showing my life and wild food to table.

I'll post it on misc first. Hope to have something to show in a few months if filming goes well.

Should watch some of them when I get them done.
