No matter who buys bitcoin it will still remain fundamentally flawed and unethical.

It´s not about bitcoin becoming any better, it´s about who is buying into the scheme to push the price up.

This

-long transaction times
-enormous, poor scaling, block chain in the gigabytes
-early adopter whales with large positions able to manipulate price
-trading bot scandals and other price manipulations
-50% attacks possible with huge china mines
-insane energy demands to run network
-dubbed a currency, yet looks more like a pump and dump stock. Currency is supposed to provide a somewhat stable place a value in order to facilitate trade. Bitcoin blows up, then corrects on a regular basis
-who does bug fixes and how can we trust them with an entire currency?

Is there any intrinsic worth of Bitcoin?

What is the actual purpose of this seemingly nonsense coding exercise?

Its supposed to mirror things like gold in that its supposed to be rare and takes greater and greater resources to access more supply over time.

The fundamentals are sound but I worry quite a bit about global government stepping in and interfering.

OK but what does it do for us to have it?

Gold is used in circuit boards and other things.

Why are bitcoins worth anything?

Bitcoin gained initial value as a reflection of its blockchain technology.

It is worth what idiots are willing to pay for it. Bitcoin is a symptom of the current clown world. A world inhabitated and run by idiots. The biggest crypto would in an ideal world, solve real world problems and make the planet a better place. But we don´t live in such a society, and there is no reason to think we ever will.

Because you get to buy stuff with it over the internet with absolutely no purchase protection or any idea of who you sent it to, or any comeback at all when you don’t get what you paid for.

Can’t you see how exciting that is?

I think ETH will have better bottom to top returns this cycle, but there will be extensive periods of BTC heavy price action (not now, we are still in the middle of alt season).

One of my best buds is a huge crypto guy and even he is afraid to move coins around because they get lost with no way to recover them. Happened to him with a large sum, but he is still all in on crypto. More so for speculation than anything.

Solve what equation? If you mean something like a quantum computer that can break SHA-256, we are quite a lot further away from that than you probably think - and it would equally impact every SHA-256 derived security algo in the world.

Quantum resistant consensus algorithms are already being developed.
