And the other half is controlling the temperature and amount of smoke, if smoking, with skill.

OP, you know ovens have complete temperature control, timers, and are even in your home. You can also smoke meat in it.

Pit Boss > Traeger

Use a Pit Boss, can sear on it, open the grates to cook over a real flame. Also uses pellets like an oven, and several hundred dollars cheaper.

propane for convivence (weber best for this).

Charcoal/wood on a Kettle or Santa Maria grill for that primal feeling of cooking like a caveman.

You have a wing and pizza recipe?

I do dry rub wings and they turn out legit. Do you brine your wings?

Have an Austin XL, has been pretty reliable once I got used to it but you have to keep them cleaned out.

I dont brine. I dry them out (room temp, paper towel dry), hit them with a salt/pepper/garlic dry rub, then smoke for a couple hrs until they are 20-30 deg shy of finished on a wire rack.

Then I sauce them (if thats the way I am going) while the gas grill is heating up to 700 (or as high as I can get it) and finish them there for about 10 min.

Superbowl wings I had to finish under the broiler, smoker can work under a welding blanket but can't get the gas grill temps up with -30 outside.

Ok so I'm a general retard and need some advice because my father wasn't a grilling guy. I bought myself a nexgrill from home depot, pretty good I think but not some fancy grill.

Usually just grill something for my wife and I so not much food. I used to won a ****ty walmart mini grill with the camping green gas cylinder and use that to make burgers. Now that I have the new full size grill I am making our two burger patties on there.

Problem is I wonder if it's too big for burgers. Just two patties sitting there, all 4 burners on spending LP gas,and it takes like 10-15 minutes to get the patties done. I usually put them on around 500 F but it just seems like relative to the size of the grill and the distance between burners, the patties are small as **** and most of my gas and heat energy is just being wasted into the environment.

Last time I placed my smokey joe top inside the grill on top of the burgers and I think it helped to keep heat and steam vapors from the concentrated around the patties. Also since the top of the smokey joe is Infused with gunk from prior smokes it got a lot of smoke going and gave it a nice flavor

Anyways, are two burger patties to small to cook on a full size gas grill? Feel like I'm wasting gas and I'm stingy as fuk with that chit.

I just use a plain old oklahoma joes offset smoker Simple and it works. I cut down and split my own wood from a local orchard too. It seems crazy to me to pay for wood. They get old trees cut down for the simple payment of letting me haul it off. No electricity required, dont need to use an app, no motor to break in the middle of using it.

My dad has a Traeger, it’s a giant POS! That hot rod deal thing has shorted out on him 4x. Every time I go over there he has it in 100 pieces and my mom is facepalming. She hates the thing so much she bought him a Weber lol.

I have a Weber Smokey mtn, Santa Maria Grill and a Weber gas.

Traeger’s are for people who are to lazy to open and close vents and like to buy over priced saw dust pellets.

girlfriend has a pizza crust recipe she uses. no idea what it is other than it uses bread flour instead of any other type of flour. but i crank up the traeger to 500 degrees and put a pizza stone inside. she rolls out the crust on a piece of parchment paper. we sauce cheese and topping the pizza with what we want and put it on the stone. prob takes 12-15 minutes. crust gets super crispy

this is just a basic sausage and pepperoni from last weekend

wings, i just hit them with dirty bird seasoning. found that seasoning at a bbq store that has 1000's of types of seasonings and rubs but its on amazon. prob takes 2-3 hours at 220ish degrees. then i lube them up with a sauce with 30 min to go. pretty much do the same thing with a whole chicken(either butterfly it or cut into 8 pieces)

Traeger is good but it is considered entry level. The problem with buying a Traeger is that you can get a mid level to high end pellet smoker for the same money...

I would MUCH rather get a new Recteq (which is considered as a solid mid-level pellet smoker) or a used Yoder than a Traeger. Yoder is pretty much the king of the pellet game.

In the end - if you are going to buy one cooking device a Komodo is 1000% more functional...

I have a few options. Weber Kettle, Ugly drum smoker I built myself, an electric Masterbuilt smoker, and a Weber gas grill.

Have the drum smoker ready on the drive way for ribs in about an hour.

At one point I had a stick burner, egg and traeger. Traeger didnt put enough smoke on the meat for smoking and didnt get hot enough for searing steaks. So it was pretty bleh if you ask me so I sold it.
