Aunt Jemima syrup has officially been replaced, renamed Pearl Milling

https://www.today.com/food/aunt-jemi...ompany-t208589

Apparently Pearl Milling was the name of the company in the 1880s before Aunt Jemima became an established brand.

srs I don't understand why Aunt Jemima was racist. The label looks an old timey, well kept black woman. How is that offensive?

Imagine just abandoning one of America's most well-known brands. Has to be literally billions of dollars thrown down the drain. I'd imagine you could name your own price if you sold the name, its a legitimate money printer. This is an amazingly anti business choice.

I buy ms butterworths anyway but just lmao. Won't eat this **** on principle, will eat plain pancakes if served this.

I've literally only ever heard black folks make fun of other black folks using aunt Jemima as a reference, did they create this problem themselves? I legit don't understand the logic lol.

I've never once in all my years ever heard a white person say anything about aunt Jemima

You see, Aunt Jemima was a house slave to a cruel white master. He had his way with her many times, sadly these encounters were not consensual. She was known in the slave quarters for her epic pancakes and tasty syrup. Her overlord had diabetes, at least according to the voodoo witch in her sleeping quarters, and she used this knowledge to her advantage. To make a long story short, the sugar killed him and she earned her freedom. She decided to make her living via pancakes and syrup. For her time she lived to a ripe old age. She died at 37.

Their you have it, everything you didn't know about Aunt Jemima. Fuk, Im in the mood for some flapjacks!

While this is true, I would argue that the racist caricature mascot was retired decades ago. They got rid of the headscarf, the missing teeth, the insulting broken grammar long ago and have presented a new, more modern woman on their boxes most of my life. The most recent Aunt Jemima was a classy, motherly looking lady.

But since they’re getting ready to phase her out, I’m also going to write a letter demanding Schwan’s Consumer Brands discontinues this ridiculously over the top portrayal of Italian-American pizzeria owners on their Tony’s frozen pizza boxes:

Not srs.

Maybe it's 4dchess, maybe they decided to remove Aunt Jemima because as we've all seem diversity does NOT sell, but they knew they could be called racist, so they themselves spread disinformation about aunt Jemima being racist and bingo Bango bongo they get free publicity and lose the diversify while being praised for it.... Fuking genius. Srs.

Interesting reading about the brand

The Davis Milling Company was renamed Aunt Jemima Mills in February 1914. By 1915, the brand was so well recognized that it changed trademark infringement precedent and led to a critical principal of trademark law protection called the “Aunt Jemima Doctrine”

That’s how powerful it was
