I never have, never will participate in a "Hallmark Holliday".

I set this ground rule/expectation before getting married (dead srs).

I dont do push gifts, gender reveals...nor will ever I turn mothers day into "wifes day"....

..and before you say Im "horrible" or my wife will cheat, we go on weekly date nights. I refuse to buy into social pressure that requires me to buy something or participate in something to show my love. Love is an action you do everyday not when society shames you into it or for your partner to show off to their friends.

It's a marketing scheme - people make bank off of it, not much else to it really.

This is always how I viewed it.

Imagine needing society to tell you which day you should appreciate your partner.

"From Feb. 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain."
https://www.npr.org/2011/02/14/13369...valentines-day

(the rest of that section is pretty cool)

also from the same source

"The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine's Day."

of course, modern society turned it into another buy & consume holiday. in this day and age, some good ole fashioned matchmaking festivals (mentioned in the link) might do society some good. alot more good than a bunch of jesters buying candy and baubles for an unappreciative woman.

Neither of those things, I just think it's silly.

My 2 LTRs never cared about my lack of fuks for valentine's day. I surprised them and made them feel appreciated year round and they preferred that.
