Everlong (radio and acoustic versions) are better than anything nickel back or most mainstream rock bands have ever put out. Other than that, Iβm not a huge foo fighters fan. I give Grohl a pass because of Nirvana.

The foo fighters had more original lyrics and music making them more artistic. Nickleback isn't bad or anything, but their music was generic.
Still, I don't get why they became a media joke.

They're both mall/mainstream radio station rock bands. Bland, inoffensive garbage designed to appeal specifically to women and nu-males.
I'll give Foo Fighters the edge for having like 2 good songs compared to every single Nickelback song being total trash. Still, that's not saying much about them as an act overall.

I agree about Food Fighter album songs being radio friendly, but they are a completely different band live.
I've seen them a few times and half the concert is him screaming at the top of his lungs and sounding more like a Nirvana concert, and the other half is acoustic or more toned down. It's kind of funny, once I've seen them in person I want don't listen to their album songs as much anymore, but some bootleg concert tracks would be great.

both bands obviously get a bad rap but they are a lot better than their radio hits will lead you to believe.
i think overall, foo fighters are in a higher tier but nickelback was actually a pretty decent band for their first few records. having said that, i definitely think they dumbed down their sound for mainstream success and a lot of the criticism they have gotten is deserved. still though, they are pretty talented. chad kroeger is a pretty good songwriter and singer.
but dave grohl is really an unreal musician, guy does it all. the foo fighters have some really great music throughout their career. not my favourite bands but i can appreciate what they did/can do.
