I'm in Arizona now. In the middle of spending 8 weeks here and I have to say, it's overrated. Everything is brown, there is no water anywhere to be found, a lot of homeless people and Californians, it is pretty obvious it has peaked already. House prices are skyrocketing, while crime and nonsense is doing the same. I was excited to come here, but its just mediocre.
If you LOVE hiking, and only hiking as your outdoor activity, Arizona is your place. But if you like water and greenery, this place sucks. Also, its like 80 degrees, in February. Being here in the summer has to be horrendous.
I'm actually ready to leave and I've had my fix of Arizona probably for the rest of my life. I am in Phoenix/Scottsdale. To be fair, I really liked Flagstaff, but there is no way I could live in Arizona.

Portland, Maine.
Sarasota, Florida
These are the two spots I've had my eye on lately. Florida is better for taxes, politics, weather year round.
Maine from April to October has to be incredible though. But jobs, taxes, politics aren't really ideal in Maine.
I'm trying to decide if freezing my nuts off from November to March in Maine is better or worse than sweating nonstop from April to October in Florida. Wish I was a millionaire so I could just have a place in both and spend my summers in Maine and winters in Florida. One day.

East KY. Fishing, hunting, low crime, low cost of housing. Not too hot or cold, only natural disasters are usually flooding, and you know where it will happen when it does. Geographical diversity (mountains, hills, forests, rivers) but not too much of the diversity that's getting pushed down everyone's throats these days.
Downsides are there's not much work, and its Kentucky.

Would have picked Texas, but with that excluded, i would say Tennessee or Louisiana. Nashville and New Orleans are both fun cities. Louisville, KY also isn't bad. Or just any midwest city that isn't too far north(hate the cold) where cost of living is cheap. I live pretty well off in STL for only making $65k a year and thats even after picking one of the more expensive downtown apartments to live in.

Been looking at NC, SC, CO, WA, OR, UT and MT (CA & TX too but you know, your list).
Big outdoors guy, like that the Carolinas have access to beaches and mountains, aren’t too cold, ect.
Don’t like flat places so all of those are out. Politically moderate so I’m cool with the south, like WA because no income tax.
Hate being a lawyer but if I can get a position in Guam with the feds there I’ll take it just for the experience living somewhere else.
