Be that as it may, your brief flicker of life is made more miserable by wallowing in such thoughts. Reality is we don’t know ****. Any claim to the contrary is arrogant folly. In the meantime I’ll keep my God, my traditional family values, and my small meaningless but productive and fulfilling (for me) life. Who knows maybe I’ll be right in the end.

Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? no i totally understand what you're saying. i would say most people are more wrapped up in their body than their consciousness "you"

but i think people can play with either or. you can get too wrapped up in either direction

honestly... this stuff is hard to talk about because it's not even known in the science world what this is all about

bottom line is consciousness is prob emergent from your brain. if you had no brain there'd be no "you" - consciousness "you"

so in that sense you cant break it away from your body. maybe if you're viewing the mind and body as separate (which almost nobody does in science anymore.. but its worth nothing there are still theories out there)

and trying to "break free" or "destroy the ego" is also implying something exists, as if nothing existed then there'd be nothing to fight; in other words, that's still a choice. just a chitty, unproductive one as you've highlighted. also worth nothing that lots of this is born in archaic, extremely old ideologies

also, even if you thought there was no "consciousness you" you were still a living, breathing body that did not actually physically die
