Boxing or Kickboxing/MT with BJJ??

use to box years back. looking to get back into striking to pair with my BJJ. my current BJJ gym only offers BJJ. trying to decide whether to find a whole new gym to do BJJ and MT or Kickboxing or stick with my current gym and join a boxing gym as well. currently grandfathered in at a low price so I can afford a boxing gym that isn’t expensive.

thoughts?

Idk how you could consider just dropping your bjj gym for another one with more bells and whistles like that.

If you can afford it, stay at your current BJJ gym and join another one for your striking. You built something there, stick to it.

Honestly I've found very few places can do both well and with striking I feel like that's less about making friends and more about the training that BJJ is so I'd do the split.

I'd just make sure you're doing both enough a week to make it worth the money also make sure to foam roll your ass off now more than ever.

yea I know..I’m loyal guy as well and my instructor has bent over for the entire gym. although he moved and doesn’t teach as often but still. plus I’m at such a low price being there 6 years now.

my only reasons to switch was another great gym in my area is 5 mins away that offers both vs my current that is 30 away. but there’s a boxing gym 10 mins away from me.

pretty true

I’ve seen some vids of MMA gyms sparring and the striking is almost laughable with zero technique and people just throwing hands and kicks for the hell of it.

Fair enough, try out the gym that's 5 minutes away. Get a free trial and talk to as much people as possible.

boxing is fundamental and you'll learn fleet footed foot-work, and if you have good hands and good foot movement, you're set for most of the street fights. Learn boxing for a year or two, then transition to kick boxing/ MT. most people that train in pure MT can't punch.

Let me put it this way I did the all in one package approach and most of the fighters from that gym got brutally knocked out when they couldn't immediately goto BJJ (the gym's strong point) they had zero standup.

The second I switched to both I've met people who are regularly winning fights and my own skills have skyrocketed.

Muay thai and BJJ...lucky my academy has both.

BJJ is definitely easier on the joints as you get older tho.
