you walked in without a mask and bought stuff and when you tried to leave the guy kept blocking your path and took the stuff you bought and chucked it across the store?

we have a mask policy in NJ and I dont wear my mask and no one has tried this bull**** This is really overstepping, I doubt this **** would treat a shop lifter or looter like this

A couple years ago I went to walmart and used the self checkout and bought a bunch of stuff. One of the things I bought wasn't in a bag (because it was too big to fit in a bag) and after I bought the stuff the self checkout thing didn't give me a receipt. This store worker literally watched me walk from the self checkout kiosk through the first set of doors and then they yelled sir sir I need to see your receipt so I stopped and told him you just watched me buy this, the machine is out of paper or something and they said no thats not proof I bought it and they said I need to go wait for them in this room to the side. I said no I'm not going into any room let me go or I am gonna stand here until you figure it out. They called the cops or there was already a cop there and armed security and they came and talked to me and treated me like I was a theif. Took them ~15 minutes to figure out that I paid for it and nobody apologized or anything for being ***gots to me. I asked the cop if they are allowed to stop me for leaving isnt that a form of imprisonment or something and he said no they can detain me because they got merchant privelidge. I took all my **** to the customer service and returned it right then, not that they give a fuk but I swear if this mask **** ever goes away I am gonna go back to dollar general and all the other places they have been mask nazis at and start screaming at them to put their masks on their disgusting face you're making everyone sick from looking at you etc until I get cops called on me srs

Not surprised it happened in Santa Cruz. It's pretty much SF Jr. It had a decent boardwalk until the 90s, and The Lost Boys was filmed there. That's about it. Beyond that, its a mix of soylence and soylent violence with some gang stabbings and heron-deals-gone-wrong sprinkled in.

Stores have the right to refuse you entry or to remove you. They do not have the right to keep you there unless in specific circumstances like detaining a shoplifter. I'm knocking that guy out of my way and leaving

Well a civilian blocking your path after you ask to move should be in legal trouble. Some form of deprivation of liberty. For legal purposes, tell them to move and about this law. Then warn them that you are feeling capture/threatened whatever and you will use force. Then the minute after and when they actually grab what your holding and throw it I would hook that fker in the stomach so hard soy would squirt out his nose or grapple/shove.

Whatever you do don't strike the face even though it is tempting. If they respond excessively after your move then go ham. But knowing the courts and how corrupt everything is you'll probably still get in trouble.

You can't just hold capture someone if they ask to leave, even if they stole something a security guard has no legal means to hold you in a room against your will. Police is a different story.

But like someone mentioned if you want to really play it safe, record on your phone and ring the cops - which is sad because they should be handling incidences.
