Self Employed in the US and taxes
I started working as a freelancer on the side halfway through 2020 and I'm trying to figure out if I've paid all of my required taxes or not. I just finished and submitted my 2020 annual taxes through TurboTax and ********** Self-Employed, so it filled out the usual W4 taxes along with the 1040 for self-employed.
I'm seeing conflicting info out there about what is required your first year when you work full time and have self employment income. Some say that you don't need to pay any estimated quarterly amounts and other places it looks like you might have to? As far as I could tell from TurboTax it looks like I ended up paying the entire amount that I owed for 2020.
Anyone here go through this process? I understand the system of quarterly estimated taxes moving forward for this year but I'm not 100% certain that I've paid what I owe from last year or if there's outstanding debt that I'm going to be penalized for later on.

Quarterly taxes usually become required after your first year filing as SE. (it also depends on how much you make)
Failing to do so in subsequent years sometimes generate penalties. If this is your first year, it was not required. And it shouldn't charge you extra.
