I've actually seen people hired for not playing into that bs.

"why do you want to work for xyz"

"Because I have bills that need to be paid.".

Some employers get annoyed by watching people fumble through a nonsense question.

Did that in my last interview. Asked if they wanted a bs answer or an honest one, told them I like making money. It went well, no point in trying to bull **** someone who went through the same bs as you, they're only following company guidelines I assume.

That core values mumbo jumbo is really something else. All I ask is that we're not dicks and that you do what you say you're going to do. Say "radical" one more time....

The only way to avoid this is to become the office alpha. By creating a paradox in the office, you are effectively dismantling the culture/cult they currently have or at least keeping it at safe levels. The important thing is to act like you're one of them at the interview to get the job, and then side-swipe them once you are hired.

Yeah well when you think about it, it makes sense. Most humans are social creatures and your coworkers are who you spend the majority of your waking hours with. It's normal they want someone they can get along with and these silly questions are their way of filtering the outcasts.

But I agree, it's retarded and the importance of them vary from one company to another.

Never thought of it that way.

Absolutely true. In fact not only is it "no contact", but if you see them again somewhere they treat you like you have been excommunicated from the church or are a traitor....for no reason.

I had a job at FedEx and did like a 3 month streak of having the highest load rates. Something like 400 - 450 boxes loaded an hour, at the time they expect 350 an hour. So they come in all hyped "You have had the highest load rate in the district for 3 months!" I'm all excited expecting a bonus, and they give me...a FedEx T-shirt.

Even if it's all dumb, it's still the game, and a decent enough way to weed out the autists. It's like people who say they hate small talk. Okay, but that's how normal people operate so learn to at least pretend like you're not a weirdo. I can't imagine moving someone forward who chooses this as their hill to die on.

Worked as a graphic designer for a marketing company that produced a magazine showcasing at-home-business opportunities, i.e. - get rich quick sh*t.

The owner was a young, entrepreneur himself so everyone walked around with this cringey enthusiasm like they were part of the next Google or something.

I spent all day producing sh*t ads for customers who wanted cheesy artwork and their businesses' entire biography in a 1x2 inch ad - I literally used none of the skills I learned in design school or any of the styles or principles of design that got me hired in the first place.

I started finishing the projects in my inbox as quickly as I could and then surfing online and car forums for the next parts I wanted on my car (I was a huge tuner/gear head), not realizing they monitored that sh*t. I got a warning. Wasn't more than a month later and they let me go. F*ckers waited until close of business on a Friday.

Ended up being the best thing that could have happened to me. Now I work on a military installation doing visual information for the gov't, making more than double what they were paying me and I'm the subject matter expert in my two-man office which means I'm basically my own art director/quality control manager/project manager whatever-you-wanna-call it. Much better environment.

LMAO most offices are like that these days.

For the first few months suck it up, go with it and work out who within the company you can be honest with
I'm leaving my current job soon but on the last half yearly review my team leader asked me " which of the companies values I resonate with the most" bitch, no idea what they even are
