Damn. I’ve read a lot of those houses there aren’t insulated for the type of cold they got.

This place didn’t have a roof or what??

Looks more like an apartment or condo complex. The whole building is probably ruined.

Water pipes here in Texas typically are routed through the attic and are not insulated. I usually just let the faucets drip so that the water in the attic pipes is constantly replaced from water down in the heated house. You can also leave the door to the attic open so that it gets heat from the house.

Condo complex building standards of piss and prosperity. Whole building gonna need to be gutted.

Idiots should've turned the water off then opened the faucets to let any expansion/freezing pressure escape.

And all this because Texas cheaped out a little bit on their infrastructure. For all the destroyed houses and lost lives it's going to cost the taxpayer 10x what it would have been to just winterize their infrastructure. Spend a dollar to save a dime.

Frozen pipes. They're more worried about filming it than trying to find the shutoff...

How do pipes between floors freeze if there is insulation from floor to floor and it's inside the building? If this was an exterior wall or top floor it may make more sense, but if it's a lower floor, how? Maybe it was the sprinkler system pipes and not plumbing.

Guys guys we need to focus on the positives, the CEOs of the power companies that didn't winterize the grid were able to make a couple extra million if not more during their tenure. The free market WORKED, this is a good thing

I don't understand this insulation argument. Insulation goes both ways to keep a house efficiently cooled in the summer and warm in the winter. Why would homes in Texas not be insulated?

Well now, the INVISIBLE HAND OF THE MARKET will come into play. All the consumers who are unhappy with their power service can simply pick from among the dozens of competitors who are offering superior power services.

I'm sure the greedy execs will lose all their wealth and the company will go bankrupt. FREE MARKET CAPITALISM BABY!

Let me get this straight, all houses here have a mains shutoff. All that damage could just have been avoided if they just shut off the mains and open the taps?

Because people keep saying houses in texas aren't insulated like they are in northern states and I haven't seen anything to suggest that's true.

And no house is insulated to survive sub zero temps without power or a heat source.
