Has nothing to do with Vietnam. There's always been men like Chesty Puller, David Hackworth, and the Manlet God Audie Murphy. And there always will be. My granddad was a korean infantry vet so can sort of confirm. He never spoke of it until after i joined the army then he talked about it a little bit. Talked about eating c rations on top of dead bodies during down downs in the exchange of fire because those were the only things that werent frozen. Also, he mentioned how, at first, he was haunted by the lives he took (because he was drafted and his MOS was armor, but they attached him to an infantry unit because he shot a 40/40) at first, but quickly became numb to it, but when he got back home, he dreamed about it for decades. Grandmom said she would be woken up in the middle of the night to him standing on the bed holding a broom like his M1 Garand.

I also think there's something legitimate about that generation and protecting their home/family. Like, they spent most of their lives believing that was their primary role. How many millennials have the switch to flip that would allow them to beat an intruder with a blunt object until he's lifeless?
