Not good with cars. But have feats in other categories to make up for it. Don't change oil or brakes. Changing battery or tail lights is easy as fuk though, I mean if you need other people to do that you're a straight up 'tard.

Brah, that's not it.

I used to do all my own work. Did the brakes on my s2000. Did the oil obviously. Did the transmission fluid, which is actually a PITA. Realized it's all stupid.

1) my life is too valuable to be under some chitty Chinese jack stands from harbor freight. I don't have a proper lift or mechanics pit, and I bet neither do you.

2) the cost is trivial. I just paid $300 for new pads and rotor resurfacing on my Subaru. Who cares about $300 once every three years vs $100 DIY

3) disposing of fluids is a pain. I used to just put the old stuff in the new bottle and hide it in my trash, but that's a major fine if you get busted

I'll still do some stuff I enjoy. Install my own stereo stuff and do life waxing my own car from time to time. But fuk the driveway mechanic stuff for a daily driver.

If you want to learn, there are infinite brake job videos on youtube. And you only need basic hand tools to do pads and rotors. I did my sister's brakes with her "my first tool set" type kit from costco lol.

Here's a nice fella that charges everyone for high grade Synthetic then puts Amazon oil in it. He owns 4 shops LOL.



Here's one, Jiffy Lube doesn't do anything at all, and you pay for oil change, filter etc.

Last time I went to Jiffy Lube years ago, the grease monkey decided to strip the chit out of my transfer case fill plug. I didn't ask to touch my t-case at all. And when I complained, they told me fukk off lol.

Had a buddy a while back who just fuked people's cars up and charged them for all of it. Was a daily activity. Was a really cool dude but the temptation is too real when 9/10 people who come in are absolutely clueless. Brb just break chit, earn a boatload, tell people a story of how much work you did and how great there car will be running now. Customer goes home feeling good his car is now "repaired." Everyone kinda wins right? It's a weird but common mentality for mechanics.

Even my parent's guy "long time family mechanic" is a pos. When he has a lot of work, he just makes up ridiculous prices to push my parents away. This POS has had Thanksgiving with us.

Its laziness too. all that chit is available on youtube, that is how i learned a lot. these zoomer ****s will watch other people playing video games but not have the patience to watch a video how to swap out a battery

Ramps are way better for getting under the car in most cases. If you need the wheels lifted AND get under the car it's probably something you want to take to a good shop unless you really want to do it yourself.

I had a similar dilemma recently. I live in a city and have changed my winter and summer tires with the emergency jack for years. I also had access to a do it yourself bay on base for oil changes until a year ago.

I was contemplating spending the money on a good jack, an oil pan, and something to block the car with. While shopping for the equipment I decided I do not want to store oily stuff in my storage room, crawl under my car anymore, not deal with oil disposal.

I bought the oil, filter, air filter, and cabin air filter I wanted and dropped everything off at my portuguese auto mechanic thinking I made the right decision. The bill was 70 euro and I spent two hours working on a cold bench since everything is closed due to covid.

I am still debating it since the price was so high for what the job was, but I made more money typing on my laptop on that frigid bench. I honestly preferred working on that laptop then on my car since I hate working on cars. That should tip things in the favor of letting people that do not work on laptops do what they do.

Maybe some people can make more money doing something else and do not care to learn about or work on things that interest you? Do you bake your bread from scratch or buy a loaf from the baker? If you buy from the baker you are getting raped.

Did my own brakes (pads, rotors, and fluid flush) last summer.. cost me about 300$ total in parts.

Lexus wanted 4x that to do the work.

Good reason to kick it with the boys, drink beer, and save some money. Buddy has a fukton of tools and a 3 car garage, so it works out well.

I used to wrench on all my chit. Sometimes it saves you a ton, sometimes not.
Now that im oldcell and my time is worth more than $80 hour labor rate i dont even change my own oil.

Also keep in mind the enormous up charge mechanics put on parts. Thats where the money is. Buy your own chit and pay the extra $10 an hour labor rate.
