Theres no reason thats not better

I said the professionals and services are better. What does that have to do with people with no coverage at all? Keep shifting the goalposts as you look for one specific thing in one specific sector to try to compare yourself to America. Honestly, it's pathetic to see this UKcope where you attempt one gotcha after another as you try to defend the one thing you hope makes you better than Americans, because your chithole island is such a miserable place to live. But at least you have great healthcare! (that is worse overall but some poor people get more coverage so you guys totally win)

We're talking about access to it.

You're saying "it's not as good".

I say it is. Doesn't matter if it's an export or not. They have access.

So you're moving the goalposts because you're retarded. Also, there are plenty of other private institutions in the rest of Europe. Much like taking a plane to another state or cross country, the same can be done for Europeans. You can even get Swiss healthcare.

I think you're just retarded. It's okay brah

The fact is that the coverage is better for the average person. And if you have money, you have access to private. It's better, and it's cheaper.

You know you can still be patriotic and realise your healthcare system is a scam right?

Astonishing how emotional and hurt some guys get when discussing their country. It must be like walking on eggshells having conversations IRL.

OP- I live in the USA and I have employer paid healthcare. It's better than anything you could ever dream of in the UK. Had to work my ass off to get where I am at today. How does it feel relying on your goverment to provide a ****ty level of service for you when us ameribrahs work hard and have earned it ourselves?

Imagine being ultra right wing capitalists, but trying to justify their government spending more tax dollars on healthcare than us

I feel like people who enthusiastically defend our system haven't been fuked or seen someone else fuked by it yet. I have physician friends who even agree its out of control and unsustainable in its current state. They get fuked by insurance companies just as much as we do.

Plenty of people work hard and don't have good health coverage. Count yourself lucky, but this bootstraps **** falls flat at a mere glance.

P.S. retard, what doesn't seem to seep into your exposed skulls is that if you make enough money you have the option to go to a private clinic or go to another Europeans countries private clinic.

The NHS can run as a free model as there is a lot of **** tard stuff that can be improved.

But you have no idea how much full privatisation can work better off for the average Joe.

You are right, a single mom of two working part-time living in NYC is a bit ****ed compared to someone with a decent job with full benefits. But the person with full benefits can have incredible innovative healthcare (driven by private money). NHS can be a more second-world experience.

Can mix-match a lot of policies as seen in Singapore, S Korea and Switzerland. They have public insurance schemes that combine heavy privatisation with heavy regulation.

Although I will say this - all 3 have hardline policies on immigration and stuff for their own citizens. In the UK you can be someone earning 100 000 GBP and have 1 kid. But there are a lot of people earning 20 000 GBP with cultures of big families regardless of 3-5 kids. That means you pay tax for NHS but your expenditure on NHS resources is very high.

Singapore even has its citizens fund their kid's schooling. So most people don't have kids they can't afford.

Also, the USA spends a lot on obesity-related problems the most and has 2x the obesity rate of the EU average, even if EU means only big EU 3 = France, UK, Germany. This is still related to unrestricted capitalism but it causes a lot of issues:

I think you are getting at a separate point here. Comparing one countries Gov provided healthcare to another's top end private isnt fair, and having a proper government system doesnt prevent anyone from using private

We pay taxes in order to have free health care, typically an average of about 20%. I pay less because I make less money so I probably pay about 1k a year towards health care, which I'm happy to do if I ever need it. US people pay a ton more than that, even a previous poster stated he pays $1000 a MONTH for a family of four, which is serious money.

The nice thing about having the US close by is if I ever want something faster, I just go across the border and pay out of pocket. It's true that they have much better care when you're paying for it, but I'd still much rather have peace of mind that I can get intensive treatments and never risk being handed a five figure hospital bill.

The simple fact that medical bankruptcy is so massive in the US should be a sign. Nobody is profiting except insurance companies.

No, a lot of high earners I know have had problems where they have emergencies but cannot bring their kid so they rush and shell out money. It doesn't prevent you but your high income is taxed to death to support NHS and you are wondering where all the money has gone for you not to have a bed on A n E ward.

Obviously, there is no aggregate data on this but my experience talking to a lot of middle-aged Brits.

edit: I am a bit split on the matter as I understand people can have difficult and good times.

I know OP is talking about the UK, but I know multiple Canadians that come to the US to get procedures done

One guy needs a hernia repaired, in Syrup land its 12 months to be seen by the surgeon, then another 6-8 months before the surgery can be done

If i had something like that down here in McDonald's land I could be on the operating table in 2 weeks

We do spending a huge amount of money in the US on health care, much more than the UK and other western countries. And our health outcomes are close to the same or worse here in America.

I wish that wasn't so. Part of the problem is the vast price differences between hospitals and doctors in America. I belong to a health coverage group that asks members to price compare medical treatments between doctors and hospitals. It is amazing at how large the cost differences can be. I wish more Americans would shop around for their health care needs. That was something I liked about President Trump, he worked to make it easier to find out medical costs. Before, it could be quite difficult to find out how much a hospital or doctor would change for treatment.

"Trump Administration Moves To Make Health Care Costs More Transparent"

https://khn.org/news/trump-administr...e-transparent/

On the other side of the coin, the health care industry provides a lot of good paying jobs in America. I suspect we could cut medical costs in America to UK levels without harming health care outcomes but it would certainly upset a great many health care workers, with the job cuts and pay cuts.

Why would it be a different doctor? lmao

Unless you go to a clinic, standard private health insurance is going to use NHS facilities and NHS doctors

This is besides the point though. Average costs is way less. You have coverage for everyone. And if you make enough or work for a company that provides private, you're good to skip any queues. You're also able to go to a clinic and/or other European clinics. You have the same access that's cheaper for entire nation, but also a private sector that works in conjunction with it which gives you extra options.

On the one hand, you could argue that universal healthcare might reduce the amount of spending on healthcare, since it incentivises poor people to get their health issues treated before they spiral out of control. Massive wait times suck though, and you could argue that even though you're spending less, you're also getting a lower quality of treatment. Definitely pros and cons with both sides.

This is like GDP per capita. If a country does better than one doesn't mean a person is richer. Ireland is an example of this. Much better GDP per capita can mean there is a low corporate revenue with low corporate tax that citizens do not touch. Ireland attracted a lot of companies this way.

Economic metrics have flaws real sciences don't.

What health expenditure doesn't account for is private expenditure as well. A lot of innovative treatment options for rare diseases are only available in the USA.

You are right about being a different point but the UK has the problems of the opposite world. The World needs to stop being obsessed with the USA anyways. We need to look at how things are in the UK and see how those countries I mentioned do it better.

If you look at it in a breakdown by age group, the US is pretty close to the rest of the western world until age 60+. Obviously that is because that is when most health problems start, but its also because the US's long term care/senior living industry is far greater than anyone else's and its ultra expensive. Some countries mom moves back in with the kids when she gets old, in the US we ship mom out to a long term care facility to hang out with the other moms. At $300/day plus healthcare for 15 years, all of which goes into healthcare statistics, its pretty obvious its a huge contributor. (Not googling all of this but its all out there if anyone wants to look)

Yes it uses the NHS facilities if it contracts it back - which pays the Gov a lot of money, the staff deserved money and the customer/patient wins.

The NHS also stretches the intangible resources - the doctors and staff. That is why they are flocking to the USA and Australia lol.

All in all, the USA is still a wild west a bit when it comes to this (drug pricing deregulation, corruption etc) so I understand the frustration.

Paying tax + paying for good insurance on top makes life difficult and makes you poor as housing is not cheap.

The TaxMan in the UK even introduced legislation to cuck contractors in engineering/finance/IT due to loss of tax money, which is bull**** because every contractor uses the funds for private school for the kids, insurance on health, life, income, unemployment. Nothing lost in a bureaucratic mess.

Probably evens out overall, caring for the elderly in their last years is expensive
lmao. True on older people but with modern medicine it's more of an expected burden. What was less expected is people in the prime of their lives overeating themselves into diabetes, heart disease, and, cancer. Then continuing that trend of medical attention for 2/3's of their lifespan.

We're so fukin unhealthy.

Medicare for all would mean people that currently get great care get worse service and those who get poor care get better service.
