Nope. It would be more akin to someone hunting ducks with a shotgun at their local park and inveitably injuring a few people in the process.

So true. I’m not as big into them as I was for many years but we have a drag strip about 20 mins from here. Open on weekends and anyone who pays the $10 entry fee can race safely. Spent a lot of time there, it always pissed me off to see kids (or adults) street racing in public here when we have a strip for it.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.

This was NOT an "accident."
There's effectively no way this guy intended on wrecking at 140mph unless you can prove he was suicidal. The intent just isn't there.

Charge him with more than manslaughter and watch the charges fail in court.

There's a difference between going 10 MPH+ then swerving, and doing what the guy in the OP did.
Im sure intent does have a factor in your prison sentencing length though.

I know he won't be charged more with manslaughter. I think the laws should change. Extreme reckless behavior like this is murder. And if this guy wasn't intending on wrecking at going 140 MPH+ on a busy street, then he is lying.

this. he deserved to be in prison for 20 years at least but you can't say that's "murder" if he wasn't intending to kill them. but he's a dumbass and deserves no sympathy in court.

There used to be an amateur track here in DFW. I believe it was a decommissioned airport. My father and his brother both had Corvettes- the old fiberglass ones.

I think it's situational, a 17 year old speeding at 130mph in their parents car and crashes is not the same as a grown adult who has had time to mature and still willingly does something so incredibly reckless.

This is why I disagree though:
Involuntary manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide are fundamentally the same. The terminology used comes down to what jurisdiction your area falls under. In some cases, jurisdictions may use the term “criminally negligent homicide” to refer to a crime that does not meet the level of recklessness it takes to be considered manslaughter. The use of either term is subjective to the case itself and depends on the area where the crime took place.
Most statutes still put these in the same category and I absolutely disagree with any form of negligence being an accident.

no, nick hogan is a piece of chit. he got off way too easy, and this news network is even coddling him like he's the victim of the situation. he should have been in prison for 5 years minimum. The victim did not get justice. the Hogan family in general seem like some dysfunctional, selfish people. the most disgusting part is him saying "I want cameras on me when I get out and I want to make the most money possible from this".

if someone murdered him after he got out of prison I don't think id feel any sympathy for him.

While people can be truly negligent and ignorant, most of the time its not a good form of defense.

I was a nail technician(salon) and I dealt with product manufacturing, health and safety protocols, actual pedicure and manicures. Whenever a nail tech hurts or infects a client because they were ignorant/negligent and didn't follow the directions, they are always punished to the fullest extent.
Ignorance was always the defense but it failed 99% of the time.

A teenage driver crashed his Lamborghini killing a woman after allegedly reaching speeds of 120mph.

Monique Munoz, 32, died in the two vehicle smash last Wednesday afternoon in California.

The receptionist was left trapped in the wreckage of the collision and died at the scene, the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The 17-year-old driver - who has not been named - suffered minor injuries.

I'm not sure if you're missing the point? No one said this isn't murder. He is already being charged with murder. The disagreement is that you are trying to warp it into a different classification ofintentionalmurder. Which I don't seen any oneintenionallytrying to kill someone. I saw a reckless driver lose control, colliding with a car causing the death(s). Which is murder, just a different classification.

If you drive in bad weather, lose control and hit and kill a pedestrian. Is that murder with intent?

If you're going to argue something, it should be harsher punishment for illegal street racing. I don't for a second condone this type of driving. And this guy deserves harsh punishment for what he did. It however does not change the definition of the word "intent".

No. How are these situations the same? With bad weather driving, your intent is still to get home.

I am a car guy, been driving high powered vehicles for years. I used to agree with this, but as I got older, I have wisened up a bit and just do all my high speed driving at the drag strip.

The problem with the street is that you can be the best driver in the world, but there are things outside of your control that can happen at 120 mph putting others at risk other than yourself. A blown tire is just one example. You blow a tire while going normal speed and you're likely going to be fine.

At the dragstrip, you are the only one who is at risk. There should be age laws for high HP cars.
