Do you sometimes wonder if your body is normal? Not surprising, because on Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok everyone seems perfect! Many people use filters, makeup or even go under the knife to look better. That makes it difficult to see what is still 'real'. That is why NPO Zapp comes with Simply. Bare. A program in which a group of children, led by presenter Edson da Graça, asks five ordinary people about their lives. Literally! Because our guests are completely naked.
Children are confronted with large amounts of advertisements every day. The image that is presented there is often manipulated and not what a body looks like in real life. This has an impact on the way in which children see themselves and the ideal image they have. Add to that all the perfect pictures they see every day on social media, and you can imagine that many children are insecure about their bodies at a young age.
More ordinary naked bodies = more positive body image
Research shows that people get a more positive body image and self image when they see the naked bodies of ordinary people more often, instead of the 'perfect' bodies presented to us by the media. Body parts come in all shapes and sizes ... and no one should be ashamed of them. In Ordinary. Bare. That is why five ordinary Dutch people of all shapes and sizes expose themselves every episode. And discuss this openly with a group of children from grades 7 and 8.
Each episode focuses on a different topic, about which the children put the naked guests to the test. Among other things, the buttocks, penis, vagina and breasts are discussed; body parts that change and play an important role in children at the beginning of their puberty. Curious and open-minded, as only children can, they watch and question the guests and thus discover the naked truth. Without filters. And guess what, big, small, fat, thin ... everyone is different. But above all we are all very normal.
Just. Bare. is a remake of the Danish series Ultra smider tøjet and is produced by Warner Bros. in co-production with NTR. The program was developed in collaboration with Rutgers - Knowledge Center for Sexuality.
At the request of the NTR, NICAM viewed images of the program. NICAM was added to the Kijkwijzer classification All Ages.
