I tried 775lbs after the 800lbs fail and I almost got it but tore my bicep past halfway. I came in with a tender bicep tendon so it was stupid of me to attempt it but I wanted 800lbs before year end.

How was the recovery from surgery?

I switched to hook grip a few years ago and haven't looked back.

I didn't do surgery. I just rested. I didn't want to pay for surgery or potentially make my bicep worse. Nor did I want to take time off from other exercises. I just rested and use straps on deadlifts. I haven't done a sanctioned meet since but when I do exhibitions for fun I would do mixed grip with my other mixed grip leaving 10 to 25lbs in the tank. Ultimately down the road I would like to learn hook grip especially not be a meow and mess up my thumbs every now and then but mainly get my thumbs used to hook grip maybe pulling a heavy single few weeks out hook grip then hook grip in comps and over a training cycle lighter weight to build tolerance for hook grip

Thanks, bro.

Deadlift is pretty poverty compared to my other 2. I'm built to pull sumo, but I never really figured out how to make it work for me, so I keep fighting my body with conventional.

So you completely detached your distal bicep tendon and just never got it surgically reattached? You rocking that Matt Serra arm now?

I could only ever do mixed grip one way for my heavy stuff too. Hook grip might not be as good for me tbh, but I don't want to risk a bicep tear at this stage of my life/lifting.

Yeah I figured you weren't built to deadlift based on your squat and bench press both being strong and squat being close to your deadlift. Either way you are a strong dude with good genetics for strength. Anyone with a strong squat and bench press is a strong dude. Deadlift is the most leverage based lift but also can be weak if not built for it, have small hands, or too fat to deadlift or get into position and those guys typically are strong squatters and/or maybe benchers

So you completely detached your distal bicep tendon and just never got it surgically reattached? You rocking that Matt Serra arm now?

It healed. Part of it is detached. I just can't risk tearing it again so I only have to deadlift the other mixed grip and certain exercises I have to be careful not to tear it again. I haven't even done super heavy strongman exercises since. I can't do too heavy sandbag yet and also afraid to do super heavy stones or hussafel.

That's metal bro.

Stones and anything else where you're trying to pick something up with your elbow slightly flexed are bicep killers.

Which sucks because I still am planning on doing a few strongman comps for fun once I do my powerlifting goals and I don't want it to hold me back

Fuu 775lbs deadlift bicep tear. My biggest fear while deadlifting. It’s the reason I scrapped mixed grip deadlifts

Wise choice. Straps or hook grip if you compete and hammer grip with other exercises. Also me staying home that day or even using straps on that 775lbs I would have gotten it but I wanted to get it without straps. I had it if it weren't for a bicep tear. I came in with a tender bicep tendon so I should have not risked it. I did 700lbs for 4 reps mixed grip no straps a few weeks prior so I had the grip strength

Thanks, man. I was probably about 245-250 in that pic.

I'm a bit leaner now because I eat super clean and usually sit around 230 lbs.
