Vietnam is dope, I'm here currently. If you have like 5 grand to burn you can get a "business" visa and come here despite covid. Money always talks in nam. The people are respectful and everyone socializes. There's still a strong sense of family and social hierarchy when it comes to age and the country is at that perfect stage of being developed but still really cheap. So pretty much no comfort sacrifices for westerners but still 3rd world prices.

I'm on vacation, I came here before covid hit and pretty much just stayed for the convenience and to skip out on clown world for a while back in the US. They've suffered none of the covid bs here so everything is normal. I've been with a girl here for a while but we both understand it's likely not a permanent thing so we just enjoy our time. I have a decent little social group of vietnamese friends, we go on trips, go out to eat and drink etc.

I know some words and sentences and have duolingo to try and learn a bit but I suck with learning languages, especially viet since it's a tonal language and my retention is garbage. Luckily English is taught in grade school and is very big business here so most young people know at least nominal amounts.
