Small towns suck
I used to find small towns charming. Where else can you get a 4000 sqft house with big yard for under 250k? And low crime to boot
But damn, the gossip and chit just ain’t worth it and takes any freedom away you thought you had there. If you don’t fit the mold or rub the wrong person the wrong way, get ready to be a social pariah and have your kids excluded.
People there have basic jobs and no ambition so just waste their time tearing others down.
Meanwhile, in a tier 1 city you can live however you want and no one gives a phuk
Edit: I’m talking like under 5000 people backwoods. Towns with over 10k have some of the same issues but not nearly on the same level

I lived in a small town for a while. It sucked. Parking was always an issue, especially when they did some stupid small town festival (first fridays, parades, etc and you couldn’t park on entire lengths of street. Not to mention the tourist that drive slow as fukk to take in all the “charm”. There are other annoyances but those are the worst IMO.

Yeah, bro. It sucks. There's limited options for entertainment. Limited options for food. Limited options for shopping. A few small companies usually have a strangehold on everything being sold in the city. Unless you're like real rural and happy with a partly hermit type lifestyle then you're better off being in a suburb of a big city.

I'm at the point where even my 150,000 population city is way too small. The thought of living in my hometown(pop ~8000 makes me legit want to die of boredom).

Small town life rules dude lol
The way we do it anyway, more space than typical neighborhoods, only 1/3rd of an acre but both lots next to ours are heavily wooded and there’s a ranch behind us that’s all woods.
The wife runs into town for groceries but otherwise we stay away.
Ultimately want land so we can be self sustained and isolated.

I don't know much about small towns but I've visited my share of them before and i get very bored after just a few hours. I've asked what they do for fun. The usual answer is casinos miles away, or shooting. I do have to say small towns have extremely nice people or maybe that's only to visitors.

If youre a consooomer yes. If you're on neet time with good internet then its pretty great. I don't live in a small town but wouldn't mind at this point. I cook all my food now pretty much and have a home gym. Just need internet for entertainment. If you need other kinds of entertainment, you can usually make a 30-45 min drive to get to a big city where everything is.

For some people who were born in it, there is a sense of home to it. They would feel the same way in a big city in the opposite effects.

vs a city?
I can't imagine anything worse than living in a city. Go live in Chicago for a decade and let me know how much you miss your small town.

I grew up suburban/rural. Thought I wanted to live city live. Lived in a big city for a short while. Most miserable I've ever been. Made me realize space and quiet is extremely important for humans. So is a community of people.
Look at cities right now. They're crumbling. They're literally prison cells for normal people and playgrounds for criminals. It is an inverted world.

Small towns itself are fine the problem is the people and their narrow small town mentality.
Personally i'd just find a nice spot in a large city. Small towns are good for weekend trips.

Sounds like you need more room from your neighbors.
For real tho, my lady lived in a real small town with like 500 people in Arkansas. Says she had the same problem but the opposite-people would get all up in her business and try hooking her up with their son constantly lol. For a $50k house tho....fuark I think I would go for it if I was paid good enough.

Medium sized (250k-500k) cities hit that sweet spot of offering all the amenities you will need but less traffic, crime and housing costs of large (1+ mil) cities.
I remember visiting NYC a few years back and while some of the sites were interesting to see in person, I would absolutely never live there. It is so filthy, literal open garbage piles on the street, crazy homeless everywhere, locals who are rude AF, etc. Something about large and overcrowded cities that turn people into uncaring sociopaths.

If a deep blue state is your thing, western RI is mostly small towns, but you're close enough to larger areas where you're not terribly put out.

Still better than a big city. A big city is the definition of being lonely yet surrounded by people. No one gives a fuk about anyone. Girls don’t give a fuk you’re just another penis to them for them to ride and dispose of the second anything in the relationship isn’t perfect. Cities are the fuking worst chit ever unless you are literally a 10/10 or rich as ****.
Community > all. Yeah rural chithole small towns suck but there are small towns on the lake etc where only rich, high quality people can afford to live and the low quality genetic human garbage is unable to afford to live.
