As far as I'm aware, I can't name any particular instances or cases where people die or have incurred long term damage by having a knee on their back/neck.

Minnesota law prohibits intentional and unintentional killings under most circumstances. Those killings prohibited as second-degree murder include:
- Killing a human intentionally, but without premeditation (not thinking about or preparing for before)
- Killing a human while committing or attempting a drive-by shooting
- Causing someone’s death without intending the death of anyone, while committing a felony other than criminal sexual conduct (rape or sexual assault which would be first-degree murder) or a drive-by shooting
- Causing a death unintentionally, while intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict great physical harm on the victim when the murderer is currently restrained by a protection order (including for domestic violence, harassment, divorce, or any similar protection order) and the victim was the protected party in that order

Best case scenario for the prosecution is manslaughter. Murder won't stick, no way to prove intent

Dude may have been a schit human being and done some greasy things, but didn't deserve to be treated like sub-human scum and die in a street with people watching and offering no help
Cop was a piece of schit. No matter how you rationalize it in your mind and no matter what mental gymnastics you jump through in order to cope, you don't kneel on someone's neck and disregard their complaints
People overreacting and burning down buildings and looting are pieces of schit and are selfishly turning the entire situation and whatever protest or cause it initially was into an outlet for their own deluded, anarchic, fantasies. Weak, ineffectual, beta, soft-penis'd, anemic low IQ morons acting out to acquire social justice credits from their tribe. Absolutely pathetic.
Politicians capitalizing and using the death of a human being to fuel their own rancid agendas.
The entire situation is a clusterfuk and reinforces how tribal and idiotic human beings are. Maybe in a few million years some far away civilization may find the ruins of what we've built and study just how primal and stupid human beings really were. The gift and miracle of our cortex, squandered and schit-upon by defunct, obsolete impulses from millennia ago.

The classic example is firing a gun into a home - not because you want to kill anyone - but because you just don't give a sht and want to shoot into a home.
It's not impossible a jury could find that kneeling on someone's neck for minutes who keeps saying they can't breath shows a complete disregard for his life, and thus intent.

I'm not massively invested either way. The cop is a piece of chit, so I don't care if he goes away for many years. Floyd was also a piece of chit, so the world is probably better off with him not here.

Having said that making Floyd into some hero is insane to me as well. Why in the fck isn't the narrative here, "he wasn't a great guy, and he was breaking the law, but that's not a death sentence"? It's actually stronger for the people who strongly want justice for Floyd because it's (1) honest, and (2) undercuts any narrative about how he wasn't such a great dude being used as a defense for Chauvin.

I don't think the numbers really back up that we are in huge need of police reform though. I think there's definitely room for improvement, there always is, but I don't see it as a dire of need as people make it out to be

You really don't see police reform as dire? Way too much corruption in policing. Stop being blind to that fact, it doesn't help our cause either.

The numbers show us a very small amount of cases like this compared to the millions and millions of police interactions this year
Again, can it be improved? Yeah. But dire need? No, I don't see it that way
I especially think that the idea of defunding police is a horrible way to go about it since you are just going to make the issue worse. I'd rather there be a movement for police stations to better utilize the money they are given if anything

That's minor and nothing happened, but in normal life when someone approaches me with their hand on their gun that's a 10/10 escalation right there - but because they were cops I had to take it like a good citizen cuck. If it was my system they would have been fired that same day and such behavior would be massively against policy.

The former chief of police in my state was recently arrested by the FBI because of years and years of deep corruption. This goes on in EVERY state.
Police should not have a decade to terrorize their citizens before a higher authority steps in.
