Keep 3-6 month expenses in a bank and put rest in a brokerage following market tracking etf and just don’t touch it or look at it.

Great advice, x2, if you are too risk adverse for this, consider a certain percentage to bonds or are target date fund of when you think you're going to want the money. Target date 2025 fund will lean towards bonds more. You can also take the DCA approach, and put in a little over time as well. Also consider commodities, muni bonds, etc to have a diversified portfolio. You can even do a percentage in TIPS, which will do better than a MM account.

Just invest it in the S&P500 (the fund is called SPY) and let it grow. The S&P has averaged about a 10% annual return over its life (a little higher than that in the past 5 and 10 years even). Just get an account with E-Trade or Vanguard or somewhere reputable like that. As much as I like the user interface of Robinhood, you should avoid that company for a lot of reasons I won't take the time to explain here. You can keep the value of maybe a couple months worth of expenses in the money market account for its quick liquidity if you want, but I would invest as much as possible in order to generate a return.

Go to Reddit.com/r/BogleHeads and make a post there. Tell them your goals and they will tell you exactly where to put your money. Jack Bogle’s “set it and forget it” strategy is the best for people who want to passively grow their money without learning anything about the stock market.

48k cash (too much but was saving for a house), 5k in physical silver, 8k I can take out of my roth IRA if necessary. Zero debt. 401k is doing solid but honestly only put in what my company matches (3%) so nothing crazy.

I'm in a good position. Nothing amazing, but being out of debt completely and a solid savings is a plus in this society.

I don't plan on buying a house anymore anytime soon because prices by me have ballooned and even land. So I might just max my roth IRA for the year and then figure something out. No point in it just sitting there anymore.

I didn’t say that’s the strategy I’m using. The guy I replied to specifically said his money is just sitting in the bank depreciating from inflation because he can’t be bothered to learn about investing. Bogleheads is the perfect place for him.

I thought it was overvalued in 2016-2017 time frame, in fact I was taking a class with a portfolio manager at the time and we discussed this very thing over and over again. I bought anyway, I've doubled my money since then..think 6 figures...

No pressure of course, we could be even more overvalued now...I'd just rather take a chance with my money than let it sit around doing nothing.

Also fuk reddit. Bogleheads has loads of good info tho

Savings account: $200k
Investment Portfolio: $80k (thanks $GME)
Other Assets: $25k-ish

About to take a huge hit when I put down for a house in the next few months. Waiting for the market to calm down before hopping in. Before that I've been saving like a fiend and lived at home for a while. Was pretty much ready to buy last year and was about to, then everyone flocked to buy a house and left their apartments, driving the price ridiculously high. Ended up getting a cheap ass deal on a huge apartment near my work to fuk around for a year. For a long time I had a lot of my savings in my portfolio, but took it out and did some small investing here and there. Took it out now so I have the cash on hand and so nothing terrible can happen.

Around $4k cash but I could probably put together $10k if I had to liquidate my investments/assets.

Yes, I’m broke as fuk. I’ve been broke my entire life but this is more money than I’ve ever had and it’s not even close. Feels good man.

Market isnt volatile at all long term, in fact it's extremely predictable. What else are you going to use that 100k for besides to scratch your ass? If you need it in short term (1-2 years) then sure keep it in cash. But if you just have it sitting for 3+ then you are throwing money away.

That or buy some REITs with it

This is a horribly balanced way to keep your assets, and you'll be at the side of the bar all night waiting for the perfect moment to ask out the girl while anyone with stones is getting laid that night
