Depends on where you are what you need. We survived as a specifies without electricity for millions of years. Many people still do.

I know a couple of people who have been "prepping" since the 80's for doomsday/apocalypse/shtf and in 40 years, they've never needed it.

With that said, I don't prep and have no plans to ever prep. I do have some gear though since I camp/hike the great outdoors and am perfectly capable of living without electricity for a while.

I agree, I got the SAS pocket guide and I take it every time I go in the woods for a few days and just read it by the fire. Also guides for plant, mushroom, bird and animal track identification are a must.

you also need a long term solution - something to filter and purify. I have an MSR Guardian which will filter out viruses (can do 2,500 gallons on one filter). sas is good too bc i think it has some intro to land nav and weather forcasting. boy scouts types take land nav for granted but i would say 9 out of 10 people cannot read a map. i had a buddy who was 82nd and pt stud and flunked q school bc he couldnt read a map. he was from the desert.


i built rabbit boxes as a kid, this is the best style and mechanism, but my dad always insisted that the wood be very old and unpainted.

Chit, I bet if you ask 9/10 people to tell you North from South they wouldn't know, despite living in the same region for years.

Yeah that is, in my opinion, the best mechanism. I had to do a small rodent inventory once and we used some chitty traps. Basically when the mouse walks over the door, it would close shut. But sometimes it was set up too tight that it wouldn't open at all, or not enough that wind would close it.

Makes sense your dad would suggest old wood and unpainted. It seems the most natural to the critter you're baiting and it will be less cautious.

Where did you take the 9 transformers take out entire grid???
Every substation has a transformer. Every power plant has a big ass transformer. Not sure where the 9 came from.
I work for a utility and know pretty much everything about the electrical system. A cyber attack would take it down. That is correct because alot of it operated automatically. But if the hackers disabled Every,,Da,, device that's out there it wouldn't take much to bypass them....

Alot of the stations are still in the stone age Era as well.
The only way to take it down is to shut down the plants. But good luck with that.

It's why cities are failed experiments. They aren't sustainable unless they can protect against these things. I remember reading about the great snowstorm of Connecticut in 1888 or something like that. They randomly got 40+ in March, and the people in the city were screwed because they had all their groceries and food brought in from the country daily to the stores. All of their essentials were from the countryside. The people living in the countryside were completely fine like a normal winter day, but the city folk were in full meltdown haha.

Best line I heard was "you don't have to be self-sufficient in everything, but be self sufficient in something."

People are just consumers now. A good question to ask is if the grid went down today forever, what value do you bring into this society? Just owning a house and being an account rep brings zero value to a group of people. What skills do you have? Most people are just consumers though.

Can you garden or know how to grow crops? Are you a plumber, carpenter, engineer, or do you have a water source? Can you cook in the wilderness well? What do you offer.

I think the past year really opened a lot of peoples' eyes on the idea of being too dependent. Well when I say "a lot" I mean just more than before because still 90% of people are just consumers and still won't be proactive. Start decentralizing and creating a back up plan no matter where you are.

Miscer I was responding to was talking about trapping rabbits brah, that's some good meat right there.

My post was just to compare mechanisms, not necessarily trap rodents for food. I only trapped rodents for inventories and would only eat that as a last resort.

Jelly. Id be ****ed, wife’s diabetic (type 1) ive got guns and ammo but beyond that maybe 2 weeks of food. Water is easy to come by up here (lakes everywhere). Living in a city in canada is ****ed there is honestly ZERO social cohesion and trust. Wife’s family has a hunt camp on the edge of algonquin park but dont think itd be long till the unwashed hoards come knocking. Such is modern life.
