Anyone not pay federal income taxes?

I think the american empire is in decline and the government no longer supports the people. Our crumbling infrastructure gets very little money spent on improvements especially by fed gov so why pay them 20% of my income? So they can bomb mooslims who pose no threat to me and bail out corporations who rip people off left and right? No thanks Jeff. Besides the irs has shrunk so much in recent years and probably doesn't have the manpower to catch me since I'm self employed.

Anyway pretty sure I'm just gonna stop filing and never look back. What are some downsides to this? Obviously I won't be able to get loans (especially home loans) without tax returns to prove my income. Anything else?

Yeah bro they will not hesitate to send you to prison for this. If Uncle Sam let people get away with not paying taxes, nobody would pay taxes. (Billionaires are exempt OBVIOUSLY)

if youre just a common pleb they really wont do much but make it harder for you to claim guvment benefits. theres a guy at my work who hasnt done his taxes in over 10 years. owes like 20-30+ grand, also was frauding guvment for welfare (was collecting while having a job). got that corona bonus too, LOL . he'll probably just go back to asia anyway and never pay anything back.

On one hand I believe you

On the other I know people who have been making 100+k/year for the last 10 years without paying a dollar on income tax and they aren't in jail

Not sure what to fear more.... Hypothetical jailtime or real life self-cucking by continuing to pay

if you work for yourself and get cash payments for your services, I guess you can under report and get away with ****. But if you get a W2 or 1099 from your employer, then it's a gamble because IRS gets reports from the employers how much you made.

Cash never gets reported. I do not get W-2 or 1099 I provide a service and clients pay me directly. But I get 95% of payments via check or online payments so it all moves through my business account and my bank probably reports annual deposit totals to the IRS *or* they simply keep the records for the IRS should I get audited. Not really sure about that part.

As far as I know the only way the IRS will 100% come after me is if I try to pay taxes again after not paying for prior years. That is a guaranteed flag. Otherwise I don't think they're going around saying "oh this guy's bank account has $xxx, xxx in annual deposits but he hasn't filed... Let's send him to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison" there's simply too many fukking people in this country not paying their taxes and they are too backed up. Pretty sure Trump cut the IRS budget and their auditing force went down from 30k officers down to 9k or so. Just fukking lmao if anyone thinks 9k humans can process millions of people per year. They're far more likely to catch you if you make a mistake on your tax return that is an obvious red flag of cheating.

Are they prostitutes? A lot of prostitutes are making 100k+ a year and most of them aren't paying any income taxes either

It ain't just h0okers that are hiding their cash earnings....

Hair salons, nail shops, mom&pop restaurants, valets, dog walkers, strippers, bar owners, etc.... basically any type of business that deals heavily in cash never report their true earnings....

Close to half the population doesn't pay income tax. They might pay in but they get it all back and then some when they file. That's why so many are against tax cuts because they already don't pay taxes but they know those cuts will be carving into their benefits.

the only way you don't pay federal income tax is if you are at a loss or if you are within poverty range (even this i think you pay some)

Or you get it all back in welfare of various formats. Half the country doesn't pay any federal taxes on net

It is a little scary to not file/pay taxes when most of your money has an audit trail which yours does. Do they have direct access to querying your bank transactional data? Probably not, not sure what the reporting requirements are. I'm sure you can look that up. I would say though that fraud detection is getting better and better with more and more professionals learning data science/AI skills. Hard to say for sure what will trigger an investigation in the future.

Is there no way to move your payments to cash or an offshore bank or something? Something they won't have access to.

Thank you for your insight brah. It's hard to ask for cash when my clients are often making 500k/year and paying loads of taxes themselves. Makes me look like a dick to some people I'm sure not to mention if I offer incentives for cash payments, i.e. someones bill is $1200 for the month and I tell them they can pay $1100 cash, most are too lazy to go to the ATM and they literally would rather pay the $100 than take 20 min to go to an ATM. Blows my mind but that's why I only make $120k/year and they make half a mill.

For now I'm stuck with the audit trail and in the dark about what the probability of getting caught would be should I choose to cease filing my taxes. I do not pay quarterly I always pay lump sum and incur the penalties for "late payment" because it's only like $500/year and I feel like it gives me the option to cease whenever I feel I've had enough of supporting this corrupt government.

you seen them forms, they want you to do half the investigation for them. You have to give them real details. You cant just say look this is the whore name, phone number and a few pics of a whore who doesnt pay taxes. They arent going to do a criminal instigation like that from scratch, they are backlogged on all kinds of chit. A lot of their crimes is going to be people who used to pay taxes and they already have some digital proof that taxes aint getting paid right, easier to go after.

also idk where OP gets his income, i assume this is a tongue in cheek thread anyways. but just in case, realize OP that you work a regular job your employer sends your chit to the IRS every year, they do their own calculations on some 1960s cobol mainframe and then compare theirs to what you submitted. Then come after you if you shorted them.

so just "not filing" wouldnt work
