I hear ya bruh, sometimes I feel it too.

lately tho, i've been thinking that instead of a bang, america is going out like a slow burn. we've alienated ourselves with our bs, the world doesn't view america as a global leader. we fought with china in an effort to strong arm them, but even if we think we 'won,' we're as divided as ever, we have no internal strength.

meanwhile, china networking the world around them, and leaving us be. america wants to be more isolationist? we'll get it. and we'll never be as great as it once was, and at this rate there is no return to supremecy. china is just going to let us slowly drown as we try to economically 'fight' them and they continue catering to the rest of the world.

This is the thing, previous to 2020 I figured there would never be a world war 3 because the world is so interconnected, but legit, I can definitely see the EU bending to appease Putin & thus have him as an ally and the world coming down hard on China & just shifting all the cheap labour to India & then south America like 8 generations after.

We stand on the brink of a precipice. Our Western leadership is weak and/or divided; the population is split on their perception of something as fundamental as "reality", and we are currently undervaluing our economic currency in an attempt to stave off a viral pandemic. Many people are disconnected, demoralized, and expending considerable energy chasing the topical "issues of the day", rather than expending that energy into something value-generating and productive, like work. Even those who want to work are prevented from doing so by the unending lockdowns/quarantines that we are subjected to. Please note: this is not a qualifying comment, just the logical conclusion of the pandemic policy which the West has explored for the past year.

Our natural strength, our true diversity of thought (rather than diversity of representation) has been actively undermined. I think a lot of the Right-Wingers here have correctly identified that many individuals, corporations, social media entities, etc. are "Useful Idiots" who are either wilfully blind or actively involved in subverting our basic democratic freedoms.

The outcome of this has been a serious negative effect on the overall public order. Many are out of work. Throw in the economic reckoning (which, I argue, is inevitable given West's present fiscal policy of printing money + feeding a speculative stock market), and you will see bodies, my man.

This is our bed that we've chosen to lie in. We are here.


Now, what should be done to fix this situation?

I feel the same.

There is an overheated stock market and real estate market which seem to hold no ties to reality most people are experiencing. Western governments just printed 1/3 of the money in circulation in the last year. Market crash and heavy inflation feels inevitable.

A war would be a good distraction, as well as a jobs program/economic stimulus.

I'd prefer a coldwar/space race type situation but I doubt it.

estimates of geologic activity are preposterous. does anyone really worry about an asteroid hitting earth? Only the odd science page that can sling a few ads. If you want to inspire fear (which is dumb anyway) you should use solar flares as an example. no one in their right mind gives a **** about yellowstone, and even if you did, there's literally nothing that could be done. if you don't die within the first hour, you'll probably wish you had.

It is. It's called the grand solar minimum. Shorter crop growing windows, sporadic weather, increasing extreme weather including blizzards/cold, hurricanes, tornadic activity, volcanic activity, and droughts and excessive precipitation.

Time and weather is cyclical. It is outlined historically. It is not rising at a specific exponential rate. There are timelines that show every major grand solar minimum event and it being the cause of the fall of empires, major famine, etc. All of these align with major historical temperature shifts including the Dark ages, Han dynasty collapse, the great famine and black death, Maunder Minimum. This was caused by fluctuations in weather. The grand solar minimum (if not proactive) is the cause of temperature swings and anomalies enough to greatly effect crops and farming which has caused a lot of famine in the past.

Last year everyone from scientists, NASA (who are mostly liars), weathermen, climatologists, and more have all agreed we are in a grand solar minimum or a mini ice age. BUT we just don't know if it will be a more common 1-5 year thing, or an actual grand solar minimum like the last maunder minimum which lasted decades.

You'll never hear about it though because it goes against the narrative.

Been feeling this way for about 2 years now, however I’m not sure anything will actually happen. If something does, it means things are so far gone that even average people who were largely unbothered before have now taken issue with things and have picked a side. If and when this happens it will be very, very ugly

I heard about it a little over 15 years ago.

Same astronomy professor who taught me about Coronal Mass Ejections and those giant transformers.

There does seem to be a confluence of instability- the natural world, the economy, human culture and religion to some level. You can toss in the singularity theory too and the idea that we are in a footrace between our humanity and ingenuity + our base instincts and hubris.

An oceanic “conveyer belt” that pulls warm water from tropical regions up into the northern Atlantic and cold water back toward the south is now the weakest it’s been in more than 1,000 years, a new study finds.

Rahmstorf and his colleagues compared the results from 11 indicators of the strength of the AMOC’s circulation, which has only been measured directly since 2004. Those indicators included reconstructions of ocean temperature patterns and data on deep-sea sediments, going back to about 400 CE. The patterns in nine of the indicators were in agreement, coauthor Niamh Cahill of Maynooth University in Ireland tells Inside Climate News, and together they show a “consistent picture” of unprecedented weakening of the circulation.
