Those were the exact words verbatim.

Could things have been done differently or was that the only 27 million dollar option?
Bystanders yelling thought differently.

There's a lot of talk about systemic issues and problems in marginalized communities, so hopefully this substantial amount of money will actually be put to good use where it might affect real change. Time to see if people put their money where their mouths are.

they don't deserve that much tbh. I guarantee they probably value that money more than their son's life. I don't think he should have been killed but he's a piece of chit who tried held a gun up to a pregnant woman's stomach.

1. Prior convictions have nothing to do with what happened. There is no way Chauvin and crew could have known propensity for violence (not that it mattered anyway).
2. He died of a drug overdose.
3. That use of force was by the book for that department and applied per training received.
4. Excited delirium is handled by pinning the suspect until medical has arrived. Did the ambulance show up after he stopped breathing out of thin air?
This thing is going to end in disaster and all from the media (even right wing) failing to ask the pertinent questions regarding his death.

The only thing I don’t know are the legal definitions of the charges brought against Chauvin in MN.
the demographics of the jury could make a difference for Chauvin.
Imo the 27 mil settlement paid isn’t based on the fact that the state believes they would lose the case on a “preponderance of the evidence” vs a higher standard for criminal charges. It’s because the politicians don’t want to look like they are fighting against their constituents or are “part of the problem”. What do they care, it’s tax payer money.

People celebrating this are so stupid. Most rioters just riot BLM without any actual thought process. The goal should be seperation of police and those investigating them as well as harsher punishments if a police officer abuses their authority.

My only criticisms would be settlement amount and timing—given there trial has yet to begin.
I know civil and criminal are different, but the right hand feeding the left hand sends a premature signal to the public of a presumed guilt. Let’s be honest in who has the purse strings to justify the tax dollars and what they have to gain from the optics.
This is exacerbated by social media and legacy media as they groom society with a particular narrative. Sure, gaslight me all you want but we all know that exists. This can have a significant impact on a jury. Social pressure will be astronomical, and coupled with cancel culture you end up with de facto jury nullification.
It’s also an absurd amount of money. Insurance carriers, underwriters, and attorneys all evaluate a wrongful death claim based on who died. For instance a homeless person’s life has a different value than Lebron James. GF was no lebron james and I think we can all be honest about that. If I were a tax payer I would be unhappy.
TLDR; 27m for GF is a signal to convict in the court of public opinion and nothing more.

It’s not only a way to sway public opinion about the criminal case, it’s also a way for the politicians to separate themselves from a a “not guilty” verdict

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

X amount of dollars cannot be granted by the city attorney (likely 500k or less permitted). Waives and drops decision to council per law. Council bites on pure political means.
Top award would be remaining life + income + 20% if went to court. So maybe a million?
