What's a good mile run time brahs?

Just ran a barely sub 8 minute mile (around 7:50-55) and feeling like my cardio should be significantly better considering you've got old af *******s running 6 minute miles with ease. I'm thinking high to mid 6 minutes is a good long term goal to aim for without having to go full twink status. Used to never cardio at all until quite recently but trying to change that now.

Inb4 cardio kills gainzzz

It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."

To me 7-8 minutes is pretty good, but that's phucking poverty/pathetic by some standards.

Does your body adapt to that? If I could knock out 3 miles that fast I think I would do it every day for the food budget gains

Checks out, I don't think I could get a sub-6-minute mile without losing a substantial amount of training and weight loss.

I'm guessing age and body weight plays a big part in this too. Running an 7-minute mile would be damn impressive for a 6'2 250 bodybuilder but not really for a 160lb twink. I'm not huge by any means ( about 185-190) so I think there's still lots of room for improvement.

That's absolutely insane, like professional athlete status.

That's solid af for your bodyweight, sounds like a good standard to work up to maintaining a consistent low 7 min mile pace.

Well, depends on the overall objectives and your body type. If you're going for long distance (half/full marathons, Iron-Man/Ultra, etc.) then those times are going to be a lot higher as they're paced over a longer distance. if you're going out for a 1-2miler then it would be lower times.

Mostly focused on shorter runs around 3-4 miles rather than ultra long distance. I'm not training specifically for running, rather using it as a means to improve fitness. Gonna aim to run at least 3 times a week.

I can barely even finish a mile lol
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

there is a wide variance for age, bodyweight, goals

depends on what you want and are comparing to. compared to general population? 8 min is very fit. just cardio for general heart health? you are already there and keep doing it. you want to compare times with "runners" then they will say that is slow

Sub 5 mins at 194 seems straight up insane. 5:36 is still a great time too, how long you been running for?

Yeah the average person is shamefully unfit which probably skews the standard of what we consider a good level of fitness

There's honestly no shame as long as you're trying, just gotta keep consistently putting in the work.

< 8 = beginner athlete, healthy but not "good"

< 7 = intermediate, minimum for considered "good"

< 6 = advanced, very solid

< 5 = elite

This is considering all body types, excluding females

If you're obese add one minute, if you're a twink with minimal muscle and 6% bf subtract one minute

Dang. I'm just trying to run 2 miles 3 times a week now. Probably like 745 would be the best I could do for 1, if that right now. Best time was 5:10, but I am 40 lbs heavier and still leaner than I was then. Would Ideally like to run a sub 6 mile with a ~340 bench but still got a ways to go till that goal.

Depends on which cardiovascular system you’re using. If you’re running a 7 minute mile with a 140 BPM average, das it mane. 7 minute mile and your heart rate is 194 das not it mane.

I've been curious what my mile pace would be now at my current size.

Ran track (short distance events, 300 hurdles were the longest..) in HS and was all of 160lbs when I graduated. Without any distance-oriented training at all I was below 6:30 at that time, usually in the 6:15-6:20 range on the odd days when we (sprinters) ran longer distances.

Currently ~234lbs with literally zero running for multiple years. I do some cardio (especially now when cutting), but it's usually rowing or stair climber or stationary bike. I want to say that I could still get below 8mins, but I haven't gone out and tested it...probs cause deep down I know I won't actually get it lol. I should probably work on that tbh.

I think your weight is an important factor here, but 6 min. has always been the standard for a solid mile.
