Good tool songs at least have replay value

Good breaking benjamin tracks are like that song you hear on the radio for the first time and freak out, then get ****ing sick of after it's played everyday for a few weeks straight

That's cool, I wouldn't mind seeing Tool live. I just can't stand Primus, sounds like noise to me.

Don't know about that. They've got millions of plays on Youtube and Spotify. I have a few friends that listen to them and it blows my mind that people actually enjoy their music. I don't get it at all. Sometimes the bass can be interesting, but the guitars and vocals sound like crap. Overall just sounds like noise.

U wot. Tool has a deserved place in the great annals of rock history. You don’t have to enjoy all of their material to know better than to call them overrated.

Overrated / pure trash are these modern flash in the pan sh!t bands like Imagine Dragons.

Then why would you call them overrated? What is better? I have not found a single band that delivers like tool does. Every song gives me chills. The infinite replayability. What are the "flaws" of tool? I am really interested in your answer

I didn't assert that they were overrated, I asked a question if whether or not they were overrated based on the criteria in the op

Because if it's the latter, the rest of tools discography ranges from ok to tedious and pretentious filler from the outtakes of lateralus or aenima which didn't make the cut (I'm looking at you 10,000 days and fear inoculum)

Don't get me wrong, I like tool and lateralus is one of my favorite albums of all time. But the cult like worship of them as this band that is perfect, transcendent and couldn't possibly have any flaws makes me cringe so hard

Inb4 butthurt tool fans
No, The Beatles are obviously the most overrated band.

Pretty sure they wouldn’t even allow the folks in the lab to mess with their recordings much until in utero..Dave grohl now produces pop music compared to what foo fighters started as, so your point is hard to relate to.

I don’t agree bro. I’m not a fanboy. 10,000 days had some truly masterfully written instrumentals if you’d learned them you’d know. I agree on lateral is and aenema of course but I also agree they always add too much filler. I’m not feeling the new album much, it had its good ones but they disappointed me. All the greats are gone though, there’s either screaming lyrics that even if they have context you wouldn’t know, then the cash money crew thang or whatever.

There’s a few decent bands still around but they aren’t in the great category like Tool is. That’s them as a band, my options on them as individuals vary of course.

Tool puts out good music but they are not a good band. Good bands put out music on some regular schedule, not every 13 years or whatever. led Zeppelin was putting out music every year while touring and using analog equipment. Good bands sound good live and put on a good show. I saw these guys January 2020, first couple songs they played with a curtain down you could not see through and then after that Maynard hid behind the drum kit or in the shadows. Beta as f8ck. Sounded good though. Fear Innoculum I listen to often but it is what it is, something they will never reproduce in my lifetime even if the quality declines to speed up the release.

In before someone says "dude, they are so technical so it takes a really long time for them to make an album" or whatever. lol

Tool would absolutely put out a yearly album if it weren’t for the guitarist imo. He’s a great artist and uses those scales to really add the needed aura for the songs, the bass player kills it, the drummer absolutely murdered it and Maynards a pretentious dik that prob is a prob also.

Adam the guitarist never wanted to change the sound and it’s more his band than any imo. It’s a good and bad thing. Think AC/DC. when you hear one of their songs you automatically know who it is. Same for tool but on a different vibe.

Pretty sure I read the way they make music is they all record their parts alone in their residences, then they share them online. And they just go back and forth with edits. Almost like a shared doc on a corporate drive that a bunch of people work on seperately. They are not hanging out together playing. Not a musician but this just doesn't seem like a great process

Wouldn’t doubt that’s what they did this last album. They didn’t do that for lateralus or aenima tho guaranteed
