Seems like a roll bread. I've always wondered why homeless don't just go into federal wilderness land and set up a commune by the river. Grow veggies, raise chickens and live off the land for free rather than be some disgusting street peddler under the highway overpass.

Do you know how expensive housing is? Where I'm at the average rental is probably around $1,500/month. And that's if you can even get into it in the first place. All of the pre-qualifiers are absolute bullchit. Had an easier time getting my first apartment way back in the 90's.

I would rather buy stocks than waste money in this bullchit overpriced housing market.

Most 1 bedrooms around here are about $1300 give or take a bit. Saw a few studios/efficiencies for $1K.

So to get a 1 bedroom:

- $3900 a month gross income w/pay stubs to support same
- time on the job (might get by w/6 months if your credit is good)
- good credit score
- no history of evictions/broken leases (aka: good rental history)

I know on misc everyone is CEO $10K etc., but not that many jobs pay $47K a year. Based on this 56% of individual earners wouldn't qualify and this was prior to COVID disruptions.

As an example, when a decent rental comes up in my area on Zillow, it'll easily have 100 applicants. I spent several hundred dollars last summer submitting applications to find a rental. Won't be going thru that again.

I am not. When I get this year's tax refund and the next stimulus check, I'll be doing the same thing I did with last year's tax return and the first stimulus check----putting it into the stock market.

Most platforms such as Etrade, Robinhood, Webull require photo ID, social security, and a physical address. How are you trading without those requirements?

I've had a Fidelity account forever. But LOL @ you thinking something like that is an obstacle to investing in the stock market. Does WeBull send you a pamphlet in the mail that you have to fill out before you can trade on their platform? I kind of doubt it.

Plenty of people choose this life in Hawaii even with a full time job due to high cost of living. Great weather year round with showers/bathrooms at every beach park almost literally everywhere on island, so you can’t complain there. Want a hot shower? Spend $50/mth on 24 hour fitness and enjoy one of Oahu’s 7 locations island wide.

Friend of a friend (single guy in his 30s) lived in his suv for a year while working full time to get ahead financially. He’s back in an apartment now and back to normal life. He seemed to make it.

Another couple in their 30s (friends of friends) just started living in their van on Maui this year to afford school etc. Don’t know much about them, but my friend said they’d been planning it all last year in order to further their education and careers.

Is it for me? No thanks Jeff

Why moved into a high cost of living area? My former coworker just moved to Maine, and she and her husband are paying $900 a month for a two bedroom apartment in a nice neighborhood. Plenty of cheap places in the US to live. Like in Oklahoma, Alabama. Heck, I would even live in Detroit than to be homeless

Why do you have to make $3900 for a $1300 apartment? Most apartments only require you to make double the rent before taxes

There aren't really cheap places to live in the U.S. any longer. Housing costs continue to go up. I don't even live in an expensive part of the country and the rent prices are f-ing ridiculous. Average price to rent a house around here is $1,500/month and that is even if you can get your application approved.

A lot of companies want people to make 3x rent as a pre-qualifier. It's super common.

I'm not angry at all. I think it's cute that you are enamored with me. I don't think you really understand the racket behind homelessness in America. It's just as corrupt as anything else.
The most typical response is the one that you have already given--that I should just get a job. But me getting a job doesn't explain the rampant homelessness occurring in America right now. And it's only going to get worse.
