Ok, you bring up a point - there is a chance I could get the virus and cause a mutation. In theory that might put others at risk, a new mutation might affect people "all over again".

So, the end game - no mutations? Is that realistic?

Likewise, I don't consider myself an expert but from my limited knowledge here, viral mutations, successful ones - they get less deadly. One that mutates more deadly kills the host quick(er), limits the spread. A more successful one, keeps the host sick and spreading but wouldn't be as deadly. No?

The original Spanish flu strain from 100 years back give or take: Millions died, lot of young guys too, it was very deadly. A lot worse than covid of 2020-2021 that's for sure. It mutated and very quickly became something that, while still a nuisance and deadly to some, was very manageable overall.

Sweet Christ, are you really this ignorant ?

This is the perfect example of how ignorami like you put other people at risk with your "hurr de durrr, I ain't need to read no news, derrr!!" attitude.

Try f*cking knowing something please, for the good of everyone else. Also sterilize yourself, if you haven't yet. Srs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a person who is vaccinated against COVID-19 can still be infected with or “carry” the virus that causes COVID-19 while not feeling sick or having symptoms. Experts call this “asymptomatic infection.”

Yeah, pretty much.

People that "don't mind" getting covid are increasing the net amount of cases - and that increases the opportunity for mutated versions of virus to spread.....and the variants might not be impeded by the vaccines most people are getting. So anti-vaxxers could be putting them at risk.

See mutations of original virus.

Afa extending lockdowns; difficult to say, but it's almost impossible to dispute that the anti-maskers and deniers extended the duration of lockdowns we've already had. Huge blame to those who politicized taking it seriously (Trump) - and those who listened to the politicization.
It "could" kill people like you, it "could" lay someone like you out for several weeks, and it "could" give someone like you permanent side effects.

Maybe this is a wakeup call for out of shape ****s like yourself, to finally hit the gym, stop watching so much Netflix, quit vaping, and stop spending so much time playing video games and eating like ****?

Wait, does he believe that the vaccine will prevent the virus from mutating? It already has, there's numerous different variants. That's what viruses do.

Yes and it's really inevitable -- and not only that, it's NOT a bad thing.

I'm curious what he thinks here.

If the idea is that we lock everything down so harshly that we actually stop this virus from spreading at all and cease it from mutating, okay, that's one plan but we should probably discuss it.

Me, I see that plan as inherently flawed: unrealistic and the degree to which things must be locked down in order to even think about success, you're looking at Draconian-levels of isolation/quarantine/lockdowns. That would have a very serious cost, one in the economy, small businesses, children's education, mental illness, drug use, children being abused, etc, etc...

... and that cost, it will almost assuredly fail (fail to keep the virus from spreading at all and eventually mutating) and at the end of the day, the real end game should be a mutated far less deadly virus that is more Flu-like in it's management than what we have at the moment (imo, more than the current flu but well beneath the original deadly Spanish flu) while we look at the most at-risk and take special care to protect them (elderly, already sick, etc)

btw, I do disagree with what I think his stance is, but he's also discussing (with me at least) civilly for the time being, no real need to lash out here.

Do you feel like you read "vaccinate the population to keep it from mutating" and chose to argue a strawman of "lock down everything harshly" ?

I thought to myself, what kind of measures would be necessary in order to have even a chance at that. Really, even the hardcore methods I was talking about (which are at least as much as we've been doing), they will ultimately fail (fail to keep it from spreading to the point there is never mutation).

Enlighten me, though.

Haven't you been listening to what the experts say? You shouldn't be asking for advice on a pandemic on the R/P section of a bodybuilding forum.

Get vaccinated, continue social distancing at this time. Hopefully a decrease in cases also leads to a decrease in further mutations. It's not very complicated.

No offense, and I'm not saying this in a "fuk u" way, but I'm not seeking your advice - I just want to understand your position. If you educate me along the way, great, but that's not my goal.

Why are further mutations a bad thing in the long run, in your opinion?

If I get vaccinated and can still spread it but am not at risk of death from the virus, what is the point of my vaccination?

Do you consider there is any potential negative side-effects or currently unknown negative aspects to taking any of the currently available vaccines? Do you think they have been tested thoroughly and have been shown to be perfectly safe?

Because the more mutations that arise, the more chance of having some that current vaccines don't combat. Then we repeat this chit all over again. And a lot of people die.

Experts currently believe being vaccinated reduces, but does not ELIMINATE, acquiring and/or spreading the virus. The consensus is that it certainly reduces the symptoms. Which also reduces health care costs and strain on health care providers.

I pretty much trust the CDC and other experts, personally.

From their website;

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective.

The FDA says the same;

For the COVID-19 vaccine, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) set up rigorous standards for vaccine developers to meet. This infographic from the National Institutes of Health shows the four phases a vaccine must go through before it is released to the public.

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/heal...9-vaccine-safe

You trust these people too - you've taken tons of vaccines vetted by them, as have (most likely, if you have any) your children. And if you don't, your parents did. And they helped you.

Bedtime, as I get up early, but real quick -

- I am not an anti-vaxxer, I don't take issue with most of them and absolutely tout their historical benefit.

In this specific case, though, I see potential unknown threat to the current vaccines, simply because they have not been tested or had long term studies. Yes, they got rushed and the FDA fast tracked them because of the covid hysteria, I get it, and I'm not saying this is an evil plan to eradicate 90% of life on Earth.

My point, which only applies to me personally (because I have counseled some loved ones in my life and not advised them against vaccination), in my personal situation:
- I have already very likely had covid. I tested negative but the testing is unreliable.
- I am not at risk should I get it (in shape, not that old, not overweight, healthy diet, no health risks, never had a cavity, daily vitamin D, zinc, etc)

The threat of the vaccine is unknown but the threat of covid (again only for me as an individual) is near zero. For something that is near zero, I would not take a risk that is also probably very low but unknown.

So, it's not that I am saying the vaccine IS chit and bad and this or that. It's just that I don't know - and that for me personally the near-zero risk of covid doesn't warrant taking on the unknown risk of any of these vaccines.

There is currently no conclusive evidence that points to how long coronavirus immunity lasts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there here have been a few recorded cases of coronavirus reinfection, but they remain rare.

https://www.umms.org/coronavirus/cov...facts/immunity

Consensus on testing accuracy is that it's approximately 90%+ accurate.

It still fkn sucks, and the long-term effects are unknown. My friend, who is (was) a distance runner can barely even jog, months after recovering.
